Posing the Question of Creek Awareness

Carson, Shane, Matt and Kayleb pose for the Guichon Alley display.

Four students from Welding and Piping are helping with a project that will bring attention to Guichon Creek on the North end of Camps. Their photo will be the final panel in a photo display which celebrates the creek that runs underground through the north end of campus.

Guichon Creek has been restored on the South side of campus, but travels through a culvert from the Student Recreation Centre (SE16) to Canada Way. Last year the salmon were able to travel up Still Creek to the edge of the BCIT campus, but were not able to go farther. The creek runs under the small alley between Piping (NE6) and Welding (NE8) which has been named Guichon Alley.

The photo display is an idea from a group of Interior Design students, and will be mounted in September as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations. By drawing attention to the where the creek runs underground we move closer to the aim of daylighting it one day.
