Students Take Measurements for the Wood Chipper Enclosure

October 17, 2018 by Sarah Campbell Leave a Comment

Overall design for the Wood Waste-to-Energy wood chipper enclosure.

Students from the Ironworker’s program at BCIT were part of a living lab on campus. They are contributing to a project that will measure, build and install a steel structure around the Wood Waste-to-Energy wood chipper. Students started by measuring the “as built” concrete footings. This is an important step in the construction process which will ensure that any fabricated steel lines up with the existing concrete foundation. Working under the supervision of an instructor the foundation students took the measurements that will be used to check the plan for the structural steel assembly. Fabrication of the project will be completed by a foundation Metal Fabricator cohort as a part of their capstone project to meet these plans.
