Exchange Student From Austria Studies Emissions Regulation for Biomass Combustion

February 12, 2013 by Alexandre Hebert Leave a Comment

During the Fall of 2011, an exchange student visiting BCIT from University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria worked for a full term on BCIT’s Factor Four wood waste to energy project.  The title of the student report was: “Biomass at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) – Can wood waste be used to produce clean energy at BCIT?”

Austria is a leader in clean biomass to energy technology.  The Factor Four team saw a great opportunity of tapping into the knowledge and network of our visiting student. The report compares regulation from Austria to regulation in Metro Vancouver and reviews / discusses technologies to reduce emissions (i.e.: Electrostatic precipitator, Fabric Filters, Cyclones and Multicyclones) to the levels prescribed by the above regulations.

This is another example of Factor Four as a living lab!
