LED Lights in AFRESH House

January 7, 2013 by Carlo Acuna Leave a Comment

LED lights in AFRESH House

AFRESH House is located on the Burnaby Campus and was built to showcase current state of the art building systems and construction practices. (See: Smart Grid compatible net energy producing house (AFRESH house))

As part of the continuously retrofit (in partnership with BC Hydro), AFRESH has been upgraded with LED light bulbs. These bulbs produce the same amount of light that a 50 Watt bulb would, but only use 7 Watts. That is over 7 times the efficiency! This efficiency contributes to AFRESH house being net energy producer. The low consumption used for lighting helps to complete the data picture of what a leading edge technologies in an off-the-shelf house should consume.

These lights last longer so they do not need replacing nearly as often which saves on costs.

Energy conservation: (coming soon) GJ/yr or ekWh/yr
