At SoCE’s 2012 workshop on Ecocity Education, Kirstin Miller from Ecocity Builders (ecocitybuilders.org) led a group of staff in a discussion about implementation of the 2009 Sustainability Charrette report, with emphasis given to the near-term implementation ideas covered under the category of “Street Repair.” A presentation was given on progress in the Factor IV area (previously called the Sustainability Precinct) to improve energy and materials management. Staff expressed a desire to pursue the “Street Repair” activity and formed a working group as the next piece in the Factor IV project.
The staff that attended the workshop met to discuss the way they would like to forward the Street Repair project. This included brainstorming sessions, a poll on which ideas interested the group, touring the Olympic Village with a Vancouver City Senior planner, and touring Granville Island in order to gain ideas and inspiration for what could be achieved on campus.
The working group also changed the name from Street Repair to Eco-Streets feeling that better reflected the goals of the group.
