Canadian Musicians To Check Out This Year

It’s always important to pay attention to the music scene where you live. Yes, there is quite amazing talent all over the world, but supporting local artists is important right now. There are many awesome bands that Evolution plays. You may hear their songs on the radio, but do you really know them? Do you know why they do what they do? BC and Canada have incredible talent that many people look past. You might hear a song and think “Oh that’s a good song,” and then never hear it again. But you should support local musicians in BC and Canada! Shazam that song you hear on the radio, check out the band when they announce who the artist is, look them up and see what they’re doing. Maybe they have live stream shows every Friady night from their home. We are all missing live music these days so why not indulge in every way we can. Here’s a list of some awesome Canadian bands to check out!

  1. Mother Mother

If you have not heard of Mother Mother you must be living under a rock. Although it is highly possible you’ve heard and enjoyed their songs without actually knowing who they are, so I forgive you. Mother Mother is a five-member Canadian indie rock band based out of Vancouver. In 2005 they released their debut self-titled album and have continued putting new music out until their most recent album “Dance and Cry,” in 2018. They are still actively involved in the music industry and working on new tunes. They actually had a show in Vancouver exactly one year ago. A few of their most popular songs that you may already love, are “Ghosting,” “Get Up,” and “It’s Alright.” I’ve also gotten the chance to meet this lovely band in person, and they were the most welcoming group. So, if you haven’t already, look them up!

  1. City & Colour

This beautiful voice and songwriting abilities come from a Canadian gentleman named Dallas Green. He is a musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer who goes under the name “City & Colour.” Something really interesting about his stage name is that it comes directly from his real name. Dallas, a city and Green, a colour. Dallas Green has been producing this music since 2001 and is currently creating more amazing content. The lyrics, the instruments, and the meaning in his songs are incredible. These songs really make you feel something, which is special in songwriting. City & Colour began performing in small venues and also working with the band Alexisonfire as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Truth be told, City & Colour is one of my personal main artists I listen to.  A few of my favourite songs by him are “Sleeping Sickness,” “Comin’ Home,” “The Girl,” and “Hello I’m In Delaware.” His music is truly breathtakingly beautiful and if you have not heard it, I highly suggest giving it a chance.

  1. Our Lady Peace

This band is a little more rock-inspired with some awesome tunes. The lead singer Raine Maida has a voice that reminds me of the band “Hinder,” which I love. They formed in Toronto in 1992, OLP released their first album “Naveed,” in 1994 and are still going strong with their most recent album released in 2018. Our Lady Peace have sold several million albums worldwide and has won four Juno Awards, and 10 MuchMusic Video Awards, which is the most one band or artist have ever received. During the years 1996 and 2016 OLP was the third best-selling Canadian band in Canada. With this much popularity, it surprises me how many people still don’t know who they are. I thought everyone knew them! Considering that’s not the case, they are totally worth getting to know, with top hits such as “Somewhere Out There,” “Innocent,” and “Clumsy.” I’m looking forward to potentially interviewing Our Lady Peace for my podcast.

  1. Said The Whale

Vancouver based rock band “Said The Whale,” is a Juno Award-winning band formed in 2007. They released their debut album in 2008 called “Howe Sounds / Taking Abalonia.” In 2011, STW toured the U.S.A for the first time and spent the duration of the tour being filmed for a CBC documentary “Winning America.” This was a really cool opportunity for them to get some publicity in the U.S., as well as in Canada when it was aired in British Columbia in 2011 and across the entire country in 2012. They also got 2nd place in the “Peak Performance Project” in 2010 which was run by 102.7 The PEAK. Some recognizable songs they have are “Camilo – The Magician,” “UnAmerican,” and “I Love You.” Loving this indie rock band from Vancouver!

  1. Dan Mangan

This indie-rock musician is also Vancouver-based. Don’t you love local artists? Dan Mangan was actually born in a small town called Smithers, BC. At age 20, he completed his first set of recordings and his first EP called “All At Once.” In 2010 and 2011 Dan started collaborating with other Vancouver musicians including the drummer from Mother Mother. He has been invited to perform at many international music festivals in cities and countries all around the world including the UK, Australia, Germany, Croatia, and of course, over 15 in Canada. His music is calming and elegant, with the indie/rock/folk vibe. One of his most popular songs is “Troubled Mind,” released in his album “More Or Less,” in 2018. A couple more well-known songs of his are “Fool For Waiting,” and “In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.” Overall awesome musician.

All five of these artists I’ve listed above are incredible local talent that need some more love! Due to COVID 19 many shows, and concerts have been cancelled, but they still need a way to make a living. Everyone is hoping live music will be allowed back in BC and Canada soon but until then let’s do our part by watching local musician’s live streams, following their social media, subscribing to their YouTube channel, and keeping on top of what they are doing, because you never know when they might surprise you with a tour! Everyone loves some tunes, so let’s make the most of this year and continue to listen to awesome music.

Halloween Activities to Get You Into the Holiday Spirit

It is October 1st, and you know what that means. Spooky season is officially here! It’s time to whip out those ghouls and goblins decor, sticky spider webs, and don’t forget your witch hat. Halloween originated as a Celtic festival call Samhain where people would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off ghosts and spirits. Eventually, the evening was renamed to All Hallows Eve and later on turned into Halloween. Many Halloween traditions include pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, dressing up in costumes, and of course, eating lots of candy. Now I know that the circumstances this year won’t exactly allow all the usual Halloween activities to take place, but that’s no reason to pout! There are still many options for things to do around the Lower Mainland to get into the holiday spirit this October.

  1. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

This is one of the best choices for getting into the Halloween spirit this year. Pumpkin patches are beautiful fields where pumpkins grow all Spring and Summer to be ready by Fall! These fields are filled with bright orange pumpkins of every shape and size. You get to walk around and look at each one and pick out the one you like the most. Then, you get to take it home! This is a great 2020 activity because it is completely outdoors, and social distancing is easy in a big pumpkin patch. Almost every pumpkin patch also has a tractor hayride, and a petting zoo filled with fluffy animals. Don’t forget to grab a hot chocolate or apple cider while you’re there too!

Here’s a list of local pumpkin patches for you to check out this October.

  1. Jack-O-Lantern Carving

Now that you’ve got your pumpkin picked out, you’re ready to start carving! Jack-O-Lantern carving is a fantastic family activity for Halloween, and completely safe for COVID-19 protocols because you can do it from the comfort of your home. All you need to do is lay down some newspaper, so you don’t make a mess, grab a knife or a carving tool, and a pumpkin scoop for the seeds and guts. Then you’re good to go! There are many designs you can carve into your pumpkin ranging from super easy to super difficult. You can carve anything from a face to a cat, to a bat, to a skull, to a ghost; the options are endless! If you’re stuck on an idea of what to carve, you can also look online for templates. If you want to be extra creative, you can even add paint and glitter to add to your awesome design. Don’t forget to keep the pumpkin seeds to the side and clean them off after you’re done. That way you can make roasted pumpkin seeds! Yum!

After you’re completely done with your carving, you can put your pumpkin on your front porch and put a candle in it to light it up. Down below is a link for some awesome carving ideas, as well as a delicious roasted pumpkin seed recipe!

  1. Haunted Corn Maze

If you’re missing out on the spooky factor for Halloween this year, this might be the thing for you. A haunted corn maze is a creepy activity where you walk through fields of corn that’s made out to be like a haunted house. Many of these corn mazes have actors dressed up in costumes and jump out of the corn bushes to scare you. 9/10 times successful. I have been chased by a guy with a chainsaw in one of these mazes before. So, beware. If being scared is not your thing, I would not recommend this activity. But if it is, lets freaking do it! There are multiple chill factors with these mazes such as getting lost in tall corn stalks, creepy people jumping out from behind you, being in the pitch dark, and getting out alive. Just kidding, you’ll get out alive. This outdoor activity is also totally COVID friendly because everyone’s wearing masks! Here is an awesome haunted corn maze that’ll be sure to give you chills.

  1. Halloween Movie Marathon

Whether you like scary horror movies or wholesome family movies, there is a Halloween movie for you! This is one of my favourite October activities because it really gets me in the spooky season spirit. Grab a nice cup of hot cocoa or apple cider, bake some delicious cookies, heat up some buttery popcorn, and enjoy a holiday movie! I’m just going to jump right into some awesome Halloween movies you can watch this year.

Halloweentown (1998) – A classic Disney channel movie about a family of witches and their adventures with Grandma in Halloweentown fighting off dark forces.

Hocus Pocus (1993) – Another classic, three witches come back from the dead when a black flame candle is lit in their old home. They try to steal the souls of children to stay young forever. Can they be stopped?

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) – This movie is Halloween and Christmas inspired. The story of Jack Skellington and his obsession with Christmas leading him to abduct Santa Claus.

Halloween (1978) – Michael Myers is a mental patient who killed his sister on Halloween night and now has an obsession with serial killing.

The Haunted Mansion (2003) – A couple visits a mansion that is for sale and they soon discover the property is haunted by evil spirits.

Beetlejuice (1988) – Deceased couple tries to scare away a family that has moved into their old house. After being unsuccessful, they seek the help of Beetlejuice.

Hocus Pocus / Facebook

I hope some of these Halloween-inspired activities have sparked your holiday spirit this October. It is still possible to enjoy the spirit of Halloween during this pandemic and it is important for your mental health to continue doing the things you love to do. Enjoy your October, and don’t forget to do the monster mash!

Supporting Local Businesses During This Pandemic

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, small businesses have been struggling. There have already been thousands of B.C. businesses that have closed due to the pandemic this year. Some companies have got back on their feet now that many places have started re-opening, but for some, that’s not the case. This has probably already been said a thousand times, but this is why now more than ever, it is important to support local businesses. If your friend is a hairdresser, get your hair cut by them, if your friend is a bartender, tip them well, and if your friend owns a business, frequent their establishment. Our money as Canadian’s shouldn’t always be going to these huge multi-billion-dollar companies like Walmart and Costco, when there are many local places to buy similar things. When buying from a small business, you are helping a child take music lessons, you are helping put food on a family’s table, and you are helping pay someone’s bills, rather than helping a billionaire buy a brand-new Ferrari. Let’s take a look at a few local businesses you can support this year.

  1. Storm Crow Alehouse

This place is the place to be! “A sports bar but for geeks,” was how the owner Jason Kapalka envisioned Storm Crow. Jason is also a founder of PopCap Games, the makers of Plants vs Zombies and Bejeweled. In this bar, you’ll never see a hockey game on the TV, but rather a board game and cards on the tables. Everything in this place screams “nerd,” along with vibrant decor and the menus all themed fantasy, horror, and science-fiction. Storm Crow Alehouse features an upscale menu with delicious food for everyone, with gluten-free and vegan options as well. On top of that, they also offer local craft beers, ciders, spirits, and wines. Oh, and don’t forget their list of random shots! Roll the 20-sided die to decide your shot fate, if you’re daring enough. Roll a 20 and you get to keep the shot glass! Keep in mind, some of these shots are delicious, but for others, well let’s just say you can’t win them all. Check out their website for more information on this unique and entertaining nerd bar.

  1. Almost Famous Entertainment Inc.

This independently-owned karaoke company has taken a hard hit from COVID-19 this year. People love being able to go to their favourite bar and get up on the stage with the lights and the music and all their friends and just sing their hearts out. But due to the pandemic and Dr. Henry’s rules, karaoke is a no-go indefinitely. Good thing Almost Famous also does awesome Trivia nights and Bingo Beats all over the lower mainland! Do you know really random facts? Trivia might be the place for you! Testing your knowledge with Trivia themes such as The Office, Everything ’90s, Seinfeld, Star Wars, Music, and General! How fun is that? Oh, and did I mention you can win prizes? Amazing prizes like gift cards, bottles of wine, and a round of drinks! The link below shows all the dates and locations where Trivia is currently taking place. Check it out!

http://almostfamousentertainment.com/trivia.html

Now, if Trivia isn’t your thing, Bingo Beats is another fantastic option. Combining bingo, music, and fun, who doesn’t like singing along to your favourite songs, sippin’ on a cold drink, and winning awesome prizes!? Here is the link for dates and locations for Bingo Beats!

http://almostfamousentertainment.com/bingo-beats.html

Keep in mind these are both COVID friendly because you don’t even need to leave your seat. So, until karaoke is back, let’s support Almost Famous Entertainment in every way we can, and have fun while doing it!

  1. BC Urban Kitchen & Wine Bar

Nestled at the foot of Chilliwack Mountain, BC Urban Kitchen & Wine Bar is a trendy, family-owned bar, perfect for relaxing on the patio or having small gatherings with friends. This business is the first VQA wine bar in the Fraser Valley, meaning the only wine they carry is locally sourced B.C. wines! That’s not all, every beer and cider option are B.C. made as well. As for the kitchen side of it, BC Urban Kitchen & Wine Bar is known for their tapas, shared plates, and charcuterie boards. They offer many different options of charcuterie boards including smaller options, to 4ft long boards filled with delicious locally sourced farm to table ingredients. Some of the ingredients you can find on these boards are cheeses from Golden Ears Cheeseworks and Agassiz Farmhouse, Johnston’s meats, and Salt Spring Island preserves. On Wednesdays, they have a Wine Wednesday special featuring all Social Intrigue wines, (Red, White, and Rose) for $1 off a glass or ½ price bottles, as well as happy hour every day from 3:30 to 5:30. Sunday’s they offer a beautiful brunch menu with different specialty eggs benedict options and a brunch charcuterie board. Andrew Christopher Music is also playing some tunes on the patio every Sunday from 12-3 pm. This is the perfect place for a birthday gathering, a bachelorette party, or even just come to have a glass of rosé and read a book. Or go on your phone because they have free WIFI!

These are just a few of the awesome small, local businesses you can support during this Coronavirus outbreak. From Vancouver to Chilliwack and all in-between I hope there’s something that will pique your interest in this list. I’ve said it before and I’m going to say it again. Now is the time to support local. I don’t want to see Storm Crow close down before I get to spin the 20 sided die of doom or miss out on those drunken nights singing karaoke because Almost Famous had to stop their entertainment, and I crave the eggs benny from BC Urban Kitchen & Wine Bar weekly, I don’t know where I would go without it. So please consider these local businesses as your next outing. Please consider these families struggling to get by. Please consider making an impact in B.C. and let’s get through this pandemic together!

5 Canadian YouTube Channels for Your Online Addiction

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been getting more addicted to social media since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. I am always looking for new entertainment to keep me busy these days. Especially with YouTube, considering I tend to have a hard time finding new channels to watch, although when I do, I love watching them. This is consistently a problem in my life because I find many creators boring to watch, and simply just not worth my time. When I do find a channel I like, that’s when the magic really happens. So, if you’re at all in the same boat and on the hunt for new channels to watch, I have put together a list of 5 popular Canadian YouTube accounts, in hopes this list will help you find your new YouTube addiction. In no particular order, here they are!

  1. JusReign

If you have not heard of this guy, I highly recommend giving him a chance. Jasmeet Singh Raina, more commonly known as “JusReign,” is a Canadian comedian and well-known YouTube personality with over 973 thousand subscribers on his channel. He was born in Guelph, Ontario in 1989, and started his YouTube journey in July 2009. To this day, Jasmeet is still creating new, awesome content. A lot of his content focuses on his Desi culture, with a humorous twist. JusReign has collaborated with many other popular YouTubers as well, including Timothy Delaghetto and ||Superwoman||, but his career goes much deeper than just YouTube. Singh is one of Much Digital Studios’ original creators. He also was a co-host on the iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards show in 2016. He has made appearances on Jimmy Kimmel, the National Film Board of Canada, and has starred in two movies. JusReign and fellow comedian Wahlid Mohammed also started a podcast in 2017 called “Just 2 Boyz.” Overall, incredibly talented content creator, and he is bound to get a laugh out of you.

  1. Matthew Santoro

Next up, Matthew Santoro! Sitting at 6.34 million subscribers, this guy is the real deal. Matthew is just entirely a great content creator. He has videos that range on topics from top 10’s to amazing facts to creepy, weird, and mysterious topics, as well as an entirely separate channel with vlogs and unboxing videos AND a podcast. Surprisingly, Matthew hasn’t always just been in the content creation career. He graduated from Brock University in Ontario, with a Master of Accountancy in 2010, then became an accountant. He started making short YouTube skits that same year. By 2012, he got laid off from his accounting job and began to focus on YouTube full time, and I personally think that was the best-case scenario after seeing what he’s accomplished. Today Santoro has over 1.4 billion views on his channel. Matthew creates interesting and intriguing videos, and you should check him out.

  1. LaurDIY

This trendy, outgoing YouTube star is totally one to watch! Lauren Riihimaki is a Canadian YouTuber known for her fashion sense and DIY projects. With almost 9 million subscribers she has surpassed the last two YouTubers on my list, and I can see why. Her videos are captivating and teach you some really neat DIY tricks. Plus, who doesn’t love a girl with great fashion sense? Now, when I first found LaurDIY, it was actually on Snapchat! I didn’t even know she had a YouTube channel until I started consistently watching her video highlights on the Snapchat stream. Lauren has won multiple awards including a Shorty Award in the “House & Home” category and a Streamy Award in the “Lifestyle” category. This beauty guru calls her viewers her “Pretty Little Laurs,” which I think is adorable. If you like fashion, DIY, or just great content in general, look up LaurDIY.

  1. Vanoss Gaming

Now, I’m not really much of a gamer myself, but considering this is one of the top two most subscribed to YouTube channels in Canada, I just had to add it in. With 25.2 million subscribers, this channel blows all the past channels out of the water. Vanoss Gaming started as a simple video game account in September 2011. The real name behind the channel is Evan Fong, a 28-year-old gamer, and music producer from Toronto. His videos consist mainly of a montage-style, playing various video games with other creators. A couple of the games he shares the most about are Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty. I know I said I’m not really a gamer, but I have played and enjoyed both these games, so if you have too, check out Vanoss Gaming on YouTube.

  1. Epic Meal Time

Epic Meal Time is a channel created by two Canadian guys named Harley and Sterling. Now, the channel is run by Harley and a group of his friends. If you love food, you can’t go wrong by watching this account. The content on this channel is all about cooking delicious, high-calorie meals and then eating them. These mouth-watering dishes have got to make you want to try to make some of them at home. Plus, these guys are hilarious. Sitting at 7.05 million subscribers I’d say they have to be making some entertaining videos. Cooking and creating some crazy meals, this channel makes me want to eat until I’m in a food coma. One of the funniest parts of this channel is how it began. They started the channel when they filmed their friend eating a Wendy’s hamburger that contained six beef patties and 18 slices of bacon with the theme song from The Terminator playing in the background. They posted the video on YouTube and it went viral with thousands of views. So, if you’re in the mood for watching delicious food being devoured, Epic Meal Time is your channel.

Epic Meal Time / Facebook

I hope there was at least one, if not more, channels out of these awesome 5 that piqued your interest. All of these creators are talented and love doing what they do, which is one of the most important things for me when I watch something online. If there is passion behind the content, then it’s bound to be amazing. Happy watching!

Amazon’s Top Purchases in 2020 So Far

As we all know, online shopping has become significantly more popular since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nobody wants to leave their house, we were quarantined for a couple of months, bored in the house and in the house bored, there’s a lot of heightened anxiety, and let’s face it, I think we’ve all gotten a little lazier. Okay, maybe a lot lazier. Who wants to go to the chaotic shopping malls for birthday and Christmas gifts when there’s frankly no reason for it anymore. This year, Amazon orders have gone through the roof! In fact, the company actually brought in 74.5 billion dollars in sales revenue in only the first quarter of 2020. So, with that being said, I thought it would be a cool idea to discuss the most purchased items this year. Keep your eyes and ears open because you might also just get some Christmas present ideas. Here we go!

Amazon.com / Facebook

Electronics

Items from the electronics category were the most popular buys in 2020. New gadgets and technology are consistently evolving and when people are bored, we constantly look at electronics to entertain us these days. The top three electronics ordered this year are (in no particular order):

  1. Alexa TV Remote

The Alexa TV Remote is a remote-control device that features Amazon’s Fire TV platform and allows voice assistance through Alexa for controlling your TV’s power and volume! This just makes being lazy in 2020 even easier. Cool right?

  1. Alexa Echo Dot Smart Speaker

By now everyone must know what this is. Amazon Alexa Smart Speaker listens to your voice and follows your commands. You can even set her up to turn on/off the lights and play your favourite radio station. “Hey Alexa, play Evolution 1079.” Thank you.

3. Fujifilm INSTAX Mini Film

Ever seen those cool little polaroid photos that have recently made a come-back? Well, this is the film for those cameras! I can see why the film would be a more popular purchase, I guess.

Amazon.com / Facebook

Video Games

Considering quarantine was causing us to basically never leave our house, video games became pretty popular as well. Not that they weren’t already popular, but you know what I mean. The top purchases in the Video Game category are (in no particular order):

  1. PlayStation Store Gift Card

Who doesn’t love getting gift cards? That way you can buy whatever you want and not have to worry about buying a gift someone may not like, or more importantly, receiving a gift you don’t like! Anyway, pretty straight forward. PlayStation is fun.

  1. Donkey Kong Nintendo Switch Game

I can’t be the only one who’s heard all the rants and raves about this Nintendo Switch gaming console. Now, I don’t play many video games myself, but the hype about “Animal Crossing” this year definitely piqued my interest. But this isn’t about that, this is about Donkey Kong! So, congrats to Donkey Kong for being the most ordered Nintendo Switch game on Amazon this year.

Clothing, Shoes, and Jewelry

Now, this category’s top purchases really made me laugh. Not because they’re strange items. Just because they fit so well with the whole pandemic theme we’ve been living in this year. Dying to hear what they are? Okay fine, I’ll tell.

  1. ODODOS High Waist Yoga Pants

Okay for one, does this not sound like a knock off of Adidas but with O’s? The other reason I find this funny is because everyone has been so lazy this year, of course, yoga pants were one of the top clothing purchases of 2020. But for real, no judgment here, I’m sure they are great pants, and I love yoga.

  1. NativeJefferson Slip-On Sneakers

Let me just say, I have never seen these shoes before, and I was okay with that. At least they look comfy. These shoes are similar to ‘Crocs’ in a sense, with the plastic-style and holes. They also come in many bright colours so that’s pretty cool as well. Comfort > fashion in 2020 am I right?

  1. i play. Baby Boys’ Flap Sun Protection Swim Hat

Not going to lie, this one surprised me a bit. Not that babies don’t need their sun protection; it just seems like a random item to be one of the top purchases. But hey, like I said, no judgment here. The hat itself is cute and looks perfect for a little baby on a 2020 summer day.

Camera & Photo

In the Camera & Photo category this year, it features a top purchase that is also featured in another category! Can you guess what it is? I can’t give it away that easily! You’ll just have to read it in the next line.

  1. Fujifilm INSTAX Mini Film

You guessed it! The film that’s more popular than the camera itself! Whoever purchased these must be taking a lot of awesome photos. I mean, who doesn’t love polaroids anyway? Shake it! Especially if they were able to at least do a little bit of BC exploring this year.

  1. Fujifilm Instax Camera

Ah, here it is. The camera we’ve all been waiting for. These adorable cameras come in a bunch of colours and are portable to make sure you can take the perfect pictures everywhere you go. Maybe a good Christmas gift? Just giving ideas!

Amazon.com / Facebook

Have I piqued your interest in online shopping yet? Or have you already been one of the 150.6 million mobile Amazon users? Either way, if you’re looking to do some easy shopping, Amazon is the place to be! With 89% of buyers more likely to purchase from Amazon rather than any other online shopping website, how could you go wrong? Plus, if you’re really into online shopping Amazon Prime will deliver your items right to your door in just 1-2 days! But, as I know from personal experience, I should put a content warning on this story, so let me warn you, this virtual shopping thing can be highly addictive. Next thing you know you’ll have boxes piled up outside your door, they’ll be overflowing throughout your home, and you’ll get lost somewhere in there. So please, know your limit and play within it.

The Artist with Two Names

Looking for some more new music? This guy is the real deal. From working on his own name, as well as a duo name, Andrew Christopher is one to keep your eyes on.

We're going CANADIAN again on my LIVE STREAM tonight 630-730 PST! The Hip, Blue Rodeo, Barenaked Ladies + more! Tell your friends!! National Arts Centre / Centre national des ArtsPhoto cred: Bree Ross

Posted by Andrew Christopher Music on Thursday, 26 March 2020

Andrew grew up in a small town called Agassiz, BC. He has been performing music full-time over the past 6 years at parties, weddings, bars, and restaurants. His biggest inspirations for his music are his three children, his marriage, love for travel, and lust for life.

AC has been writing and recording original music for 10 years now, but his current new music is under the name “Parliament of Owls.” Parliament of Owls is a singer/songwriter duo with his friend Jamie Rowe from Vancouver Island. This folk-rock duo released their debut album on July 1, 2019. These two together have some incredible tunes, including their new single “Hey Baby.” This music is feel-good, easy listening, and I 100% recommend checking it out for some good vibes. “This Beach,” and “Vacation Song” are two more great songs off the album.

https://open.spotify.com/artist/2GyU2DpmixLA8eX9YhW6TS

Parliament of Owls has been a part of a new project called “Artists in Isolation.” This is an album that features songs from local BC artists that have been recorded from their homes and sent to Rosewood Studios in Chilliwack to compile into a record. There is Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the Artists in Isolation albums and “Hey Baby,” by Parliament of Owls is in Volume 2. This album can be streamed online or purchased digitally as well as by CD. This project is about bringing together local musicians and allowing them to continue creating beautiful music during the COVID-19 pandemic. Parliament of Owls is happy to be able to be part of such an inclusive and genuine project within the local music community.

As for Andrew Christopher, gigs are slowly starting to come back and he’s hoping to do more in the near future. AC wants to work with artists as a life coach, but for music. He wants to help new artists with songwriting, performance tips, and building confidence, in hopes that they will follow their passion.

Andrew also has his own podcast called “The AC Show.”

This weekend September 19th and 20th, The GVFTF will be at the Chilliwack Heritage Park from 11am to 6pm. There will be eight different food trucks rolling in including fried chicken, mac n cheese, mini donuts, lemonade, corndogs, and BBQ! This is the perfect opportunity to get some of that fair food in your body you’ve been missing this year. If Chilliwack is a little out of the way for you, that’s okay too! September 26th and 27th, the festival will be happening all over again at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds!

The Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival says, “Our 2020 objective is to help food trucks safely navigate the COVID-19 “new normal” to allow them to continue to serve the communities we love. As always, we aim to bring the best of BC’s Food Trucks, Artisan Market Vendors, and entertainers together for free events within our local BC communities.”

As everyone knows, supporting local businesses this extremely important this year, and when we miss out on fairs, food, and festivals, opportunities like this one need to be taken! The vendors will be accepting all forms of payment including cash, debit, and credit. Each truck will have its own lineup, as well as a loop lane if you’re wanting to try more than one truck. No need to buy tickets or pre-book a spot, just drive on in! Please keep in mind, all COVID-19 protocols are being followed and staff members are held to the highest sanitation standards for the health and safety of everyone.

The Reasons Why Halloween 2020 Should Not Be Cancelled

I don’t know about you, but I love Halloween. It’s actually my favourite holiday. I love it even more than Christmas! That’s why I refuse to let it be cancelled this year.

Halloween is the one time of the year where you can be whoever or whatever you want to be. For that one night, you can be anything! Your favourite movie character, a spooky monster, a hotdog, a sheriff, any kind of animal, a celebrity, and I’ve even seen someone dress up as a pair of pants. The options are endless!

Now, that’s not the only good part about Halloween. There are corn mazes, hayrides, haunted houses, pumpkin carving, decorations, scary movie marathons AND free candy! Who doesn’t like free candy? All of these things make this holiday the most unique holiday there is. Which is why it must not be cancelled!

2020 has been a year for cancelling many things, but October 31st just can’t be one of them, and here’s why. Halloween is the only holiday that can adhere to most COVID-19 protocols. Many costumes already have masks and gloves, many of these costumes are only worn once, and if not only once, then only once a year, all treats and candy are pre-wrapped, sealed, and packaged individually, trick-or-treating is an outdoor activity which involves walking around in small groups not staying anywhere too long at once, plus, this isn’t a holiday that involves lots of contact with other humans, unlike Christmas or Thanksgiving where you’re hugging and kissing everyone around!

This year Halloween is on a Saturday! That means that even if you’re up late binge eating candy and watching horror movies, you probably won’t have to be up early for work or school the next day! Halloween doesn’t wind up on a weekend night very often, so we HAVE to use this opportunity. Plus, it will be a full moon! That’s right, Halloween is on a full moon this year! This is the perfect night for spooky activities! Last but not least, Halloween will be an extra hour-long this year due to daylight savings!

This is literally the perfect year for Halloween, and we have to make the most of it.
