Environmental Explorations

Building Environmental Explorations are short studies involving building science and environmental analyses (measurements, monitoring, simulations) to explain a phenomenon of interest. Students are welcome to contribute.

“The laws of physics are, “cast in stone”; that is, they define or express an order of things. These laws can be ignored but, ultimately, cannot be broken or changed. Think of the example of gravity—it’s not just a good idea, it’s the law. You can “ignore” it, but almost always at your peril.”

  • Exploration#1 – Family at home: dynamics, behaviors, and possible indoor air quality effects
  • Exploration#2 – New wood flooring coating, formaldehyde, and unexpected long stay in a hotel
  • Exploration#3 – Clear skies
  • Exploration#4 – Study habits Vs. HVAC schedule mismatch. Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV)?
