The EQuSim Lab is under construction. The objectives of the Lab are the following:
- Training, demonstration, research
- Conduct tests and experiments on advanced residential ventilation systems:
- Design, construction, operational issues & optimization
- indoor air quality, ventilation, & contaminant removal effectiveness
- Effects of location of supply and return register
- Effects of poor balancing
- Effects of duct air leakages (lower air flows than designed)
- Effects of closed/open doors
- Effects of different types and locations of transfer grilles
- Effects of warm versus cold supply air temperature, warm/cold walls, envelope air-rightness
- Develop and calibrate multi-zone airflow network & computational fluid dynamics simulation models
- Optimize ventilation: supply/return location, amount of outdoor air, etc.
- Investigate ventilation effectiveness & reliability of ventilation systems:
- Active: balanced, exhaust w/ducted makeup air
- Passive: natural ventilation
- Hybrid: exhaust w/passive air inlets, exhaust w/leakage air inlets
- Develop & implement demand-controlled ventilation strategies
- Investigate zonal models for room level control and thermostat location
