Matthew Pedley joins BCIT as Associate Dean, Electrical Engineering and Technology

BCIT is pleased to announce that Matthew Pedley, BASc, PEng has been appointed Associate Dean of Electrical Engineering and Technology in the BCIT School of Energy (SoE).

Matthew comes to BCIT from BC Hydro. He brings over 15 years of experience in public and private electrical utilities. He has worked as a Senior Regulatory Specialist on large capital projects, as an Engineering Team Lead in quality management, and as an Equipment Specialist and Field Services Engineer in Distribution Engineering.

Matthew was born and raised in the beautiful West Kootenay region of BC and relocated to Vancouver in 2002 to study engineering at UBC. During Matthew’s undergrad at UBC, he enjoyed working in the Registrar’s Office in Student Information and Resource Services. For the last 10 years, he has been mentoring students at UBC and co-workers at BC Hydro. Working the post-secondary sector allows Matthew to share his passion in sharing knowledge and expertise. He believes knowledge is very important and that education is a great equalizer.

“If you get an education, you can end up on par with people who started off with a greater advantage than you had,” says Matthew

His favorite aspect about team management and leadership is being able to help people develop – through mentoring, coaching, and support – to be the best that they can be.

Matthew looks forward to working with industry to develop a future-proof, applied education that prepares BCIT students to be job-ready for the workforce.
