BCIT appoints Reza Khakbaznejad as Chief Information Officer

BCIT is pleased to welcome Reza Khakbaznejad who will assume the role of BCIT’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) on August 29, 2022.

He brings an impressive array of credentials, experiences, and connections to BCIT, all of which will be instrumental in the ongoing work of the Information Technology Services (ITS) department and the success of the Institute.

Reza joins BCIT from Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) where he served in several roles – most recently as Chief Information Officer and Interim Vice President, Administration overseeing IT, Facilities and Ancillary Services, and Campus and Community Planning. During Reza’s tenure, KPU embarked on a digital transformation initiative and other key modernization projects that led to significant enhancements to the overall student and staff experience.

Prior to joining KPU, Reza was the Executive Director, IT and Facilities with Destination Canada, a Vancouver-based Federal Crown Corporation. Reza also lent his talents to the Coca-Cola Company as Manager, IT for the 2010 Winter Olympics project team.

In addition to his technology-related training, Reza holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Capilano University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

As a member of the Senior Team at BCIT, Reza will lead the IT workforce strategy, oversee best-in-class information security practices, and advance the Institute’s Smart Campus plan, and its teaching, learning, and applied research initiatives through the optimal introduction and use of technology.

Reza is a highly collaborative and people-focused leader who we look forward to welcoming to our community on August 29.
