Sami Zayn Betrays The Bloodline!

Sami Zayn helps out his fellow Canadian Kevin Owens, and betrays Roman Reigns at the WWE Royal Rumble.

Sami Zayn has been in very long storyline with Roman Reigns and the rest of the bloodline for quite some time now. Most fans expected that the whole point of this storyline was for Sami to win the Royal Rumble and challenge Reigns for his title at Wrestlemania.

Sami didn’t even enter the Royal Rumble though.

Cody Rhodes went on to make a comeback and win the Rumble, which means he is guaranteed to fight Roman for his title at Wrestlemania.

Later on in the night Sami Zayn came out to support Roman in his match against Sami’s former best friend Kevin Owens. Roman won the match, and then handcuffed Owens to the ropes and forced Sami to hit Owens with a chair.

Sami refused, and finally turned on Roman, hitting him with the chair.

Sami then got beat up by the bloodline, and he was left in the ring with Kevin Owens.

Where does this leave Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens though? A fight with Roman is off the table for Wrestlemania, since Cody Rhodes holds that right. It doesn’t seem to make sense that they team up to fight the Uso’s for the tag team titles, as Jey has developed quite the friendship with Sami and walked out on the bloodline tonight.

It’ll be interesting to see how the WWE decides to book the Canadian duo for the biggest event of the year, but wrestling fans sure are happy that the pair are back to being a team again!

Toronto Raptors Are A Shadow Of The Team They Were In 2019!

The Toronto Raptors are a shadow of the team they once were when they beat The Golden State Warriors for the NBA title back in 2019.

These two teams faced off for NBA Rivals week last night and the game never really was hard to watch for Raptors fans.

The Raptors had moments in the first three quarters, but the Warriors started to pull away with the lead when Klay Thompson and Steph Curry started to heat up in the fourth.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn8p3UgOrgL/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

The Warriors ended up dropping 31 points in the fourth quarter, leaving the Raptors in the dust.

While the Raptors put up a good fight, they crumbled in the final stages of the game. Needless to say, the Raptors team that beat Golden State for the championship in 2019 wouldn’t have let this happen.

Sure it’s not entirely their fault that all star player Kawhi Leonard just didn’t want to be there. The team had all the tools to come back from this though and at least been competitive these past few years.

However, the team has had no such luck. The Raptors are currently ranked 12th in the east and 25th overall with no real hopes at making the playoffs this year.

Canadians are struggling to see a team that brought them a title in 2019 doing so horrendous now. Let’s hope the Raptors can turn their luck around and get back to winning ways in the 23-24 season.

Edge Returns To WWE!

Popular Canadian wrestler Edge just made his return in the Royal Rumble.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cn-2T5ROMmE/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

Edge has been sidelined from competing since his match with Finn Bálor back in October. He was blindsided by Bálor and and the rest of his faction Judgement Day, leading to edge feuding with the team and eventually leaving the WWE due to an injury caused by the attacks of Judgement Day.

So when Edge made his return in the mens Royal Rumble tonight, he made it his mission to go straight after Bálor and the rest of judgement day.

The brawl spilled out to the entrance way where Edge took out Damian Preist, and was about to attack Bálor, when Judgement Days female member Rhea Ripley came out and attacked Edge.

That didn’t last long though as Edges wife, Beth Phoenix entered the fight, and took out Ripley.

Fans were ecstatic to see Edge and Beth back in action and I don’t blame them! WWE fans can expect Edge to continue his feud with Judgement day leading to Wrestlemania, with a little help from his partner in crime.

Coquitlam Express Get The Win!

The Coquitlam express got the 6-2 win last night against the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn8n-2MumTP/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

This game had a great atmosphere leading up to puck drop, and attendance was large, partially due to it being the teams first ever pride night. You can read about pride night here:

Why It’s Important For Local Events To Support Pride!

Ten minutes into the first, Ray Hamlin scored the first goal to get the momentum going for the Express. The train kept on rolling as Mormonism Buttazzoni put in a beautiful goal, and Coco Armstrong shot one in to end the first period strong!

The Express got to work right away in the second period, as Blake Setter got his first goal in the BCHL. The Capitals were finally able to answer back with a goal of their own and had hopes of swinging momentum back in their favour. Those hopes didn’t last long though as Coco Armstrong scored his second of the night, and Tyler Kopff banked the puck in to end the second period.

The Express train slowed down a bit in the third period, and the Capitals were able to score one more goal to make the final score 6-2 for the Express.

The first time these two teams played this season it was a highly competitive contest, with the Capitals coming out on top 4-3 in overtime. The Express have clearly tightened up their game as they’ve progressed throughout the season and will hope to continue on this upwards trajectory.

The Express play the Chilliwack Chiefs this Sunday on the road.

Why It’s Important For Local Events To Support Pride!

The Coquitlam express hockey team hosted their first ever pride night last night.

The event was a great success, with the team and multiple fans showing their support for the night.

Among the fans in attendance was Minister of Post Secondary Education Selina Robinson. Selina talked about why it’s important local events and sports teams support pride:

“When we talk about inclusivity we need to recognize that their is people that are still not yet included. We need to recognize that their are still people who get ostracized or excluded or have hate directed at them because of who they love.”

In a community that prides itself on being so accepting, it’s a sad reality that this is sometimes still the case.

Selina was very adamant about why members of our community should be coming out to more local pride events:

“Anytime you have a public community event that says let’s celebrate these people, you come out and celebrate those people.”

Also in attendance was Matt Djonlic, Coquitlam City Councillor. He also stated that it’s important for the community to show we are inclusive and that everyone belongs:

“It’s about showing we’re an inclusive community, especially in the case of hockey and other sports, and anything in our community. It’s for everyone. And when we show and celebrate pride we’re saying that if you’re of the LGBTQ+ community, this is still your community, it’s still your game, this is your city. You’re welcome here.”

These two important people in our community, as well as multiple other public figures of the community coming out to show their support, is a positive sign for our community.

Charlene (pictured above) is a Coquitlam Express super fan was also very happy that the team was showing support for pride and summed up why our community needs to show support more often perfectly:

“Love is love.”

Canadian WWE Superstar Could Be Champion!

Kevin Owens has a chance to win the WWE championship this Sunday at the Royal Rumble.

The Canadian born wrestler started wrestling at the young age of 16, and immediately stood out from the rest of the competition.

He put in his time on the local scenes and worked his way up to NXT where he became a huge star, due to his feud with fellow Canadian and best friend Sami Zayn.

When Kevin Owens was promoted to the WWE, he soared to popularity, winning the Universal championship very early in his career, and having multiple popular gimmicks, including a popular run with Canadian star Chris Jericho. After he lost the Universal title though his career took a temporary decline and Owens path steered away from the main event scene for a couple years.

Now Kevin Owens is back in the spotlight though and has a chance to win the WWE championship this Sunday at the Royal Rumble, against the tribal chief Roman Reigns.

Kevin has been feuding with Roman for a few months now. The feud stemmed from Sami Zayn joining the bloodline, and betraying his best friend Kevin Owens once again to prove his allegiance to the bloodline. Owens main goal at the start of the feud was to get his best friend back, but now Owens has his sights set on the championship.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cn4wFxtu4rB/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

It’ll be a tough task for Owens to win the championship this Sunday, as Roman hasn’t lost in 879 days. Canadian fans will be willing him on though as its been a long time since we had a Canadian champion.

Watch the WWE Royal Rumble this Sunday to see if Kevin Owens can win the WWE championship!

B.C Wrestling Hosts Large Tournament At Olympic Oval!

B.C Wrestling took over the Richmond Olympic Oval this past weekend for the Western Age Class Championship Tournament.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnskeqQhSBl/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

The event hosted competitors as young as eleven, from clubs all over the lower mainland. The tournament also hosted Novice brackets for wrestlers of all ages. Wrestling tournaments in B.C usually don’t host brackets for competitors past the collegiate level, so this tournament allowing novice competitors of all ages was a nice addition.

At this tournaments peak hours, attendance was huge, and thousands of wrestlers turned up over the course of the two day event to compete.

Bradyn Reeves, a teenage wrestler out of Coast Wrestling, described the unique atmosphere for this tournament:

“Walking into the Richmond Oval was surreal, the excitement and energy of the tournament enveloped you the second you stepped foot into the venue. Everything felt very grand and prestigious, quite different from the local high school meets that many of the wrestlers were used to. The finals on the second day brought the energy up even further, with an official walk out of the finalists backed by music and a standing ovation from the crowd.”

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnxZ3VfBULb/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

B.C wrestling is often very overlooked in the local sports scene, so hearing that this tournament was able to attract quite the crowd, run a very professional event, and cater to all ages of wrestlers was great news for the local wrestling scene.

Rick Tocchet Calls His Own Team Soft!

The Canucks lose to the Kraken for the first time in history last night.

Rick Tocchet had a brilliant start to the team on Tuesday night, leading the Canucks to a 5-2 victory in his coaching debut with the team.

In just his second game with the team though, Rick Tocchet and the Canucks suffered a one sided beat down by a team that they had never lost to before last night. The Kraken beat the Canucks 6-1 in a game that wasn’t competitive from the get go.

Rick Tocchet encouraged his team to “embrace the hardness” on Tuesday night, but last night he called his new team soft:

“That was bad tonight, that was bad. Soft. Yah know, I hate to call the team soft but, it was soft.”

Being called soft by your new head coach isn’t a good look for the team, the owners, or Rick Tocchet. The team got rid of beloved head coach Bruce Boudreau for Rick Tocchet, and as bad as things got under Bruce’s watch, he never called his own team soft.

That in part, is why every time the canucks play, “Bruce there it is” chants ring throughout the crowd.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cn3fSlcuYwE/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

Rick Tocchet isn’t fully at blame here as hes only had one practice with his new team, but its now evident to Canucks fans that the lopsided win against the Blackhawks Tuesday night, was in fact a one off and not the magic coaching of Rick Tocchet.

Time will tell if Rick Tocchet can turn his new team around and put together some wins.

The Canucks play the Blue Jackets at home on Friday.

Canucks Win In Tocchet’s Debut!

The Vancouver Canucks put together a spectacular win in Tocchet’s debut.

Fans are continuing to boycott the team, using the hashtag #selltheteam but the players don’t seem to care. The team showed up to play last night, winning the game 5-2 and outshooting the Chicago Blackhawks 48-14.

Both those numbers represent season bests for Canucks. For a team that usually struggles with defence, its nice to see the Canucks get it together and not allow many shots on net last night.

Tocchet was not given a warm welcome to the team by fans these past few days, but hes happy with the win tonight, and how the players adapted to the tough circumstances:

“There’s been some tough circumstances the last few days and there was a lot of emotions and head spinning. I threw some stuff at them today with longer meetings that I like. For them to take it in and play good— I commend the players.”

However, the Canucks will have to show that Tocchet’s changes have stuck, and that they can continue on the right path.

Lets not forget that the Canucks turned around their season, just like they did last night, last year when Bruce Boudreau was introduced. Lets hope that the Canucks don’t relapse again these next few months and can finally get themselves back to being a playoff team over the next few years.

The Canucks will play the Seattle Kraken tonight at home.
