The long awaited return of the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival

Some of the best food that a person can experience comes from food trucks. For an affordable price, people can satisfy their cravings for delicious food. This year, food lovers have the perfect opportunity to experience a wide variety of food at the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival’s return. The place where the battle of the best food trucks in the province goes down at the Langley Campus of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU). The festival is going to happen for three days. Starting from March 31st to April 2nd the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival is guaranteed to satisfy the curious culinary explorers that attend.

Although there’s still a lot of time till March, doesn’t mean it’s not exciting. The thought of welcoming spring season with the best kinds of food from the various food trucks that are going to be at the festival is amazing. Marking the calendars and counting down the days to the festival must be on every food lover’s agenda. The list of featuring breweries, vendors, market vendors and entertainers are going to be announced on their social media over the weeks as we get closer to the festival. Their commitment to entertain and feed people at the same time is remarkable.

The entry to the festival is a donation to support the KPU Alumni Association and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. While people attending the festival can enjoy the food, the people making the food are competing for trophies and “best of” titles. Some of the trophies that are there for the taking are the Best Between The Buns, Best Fusion, Best International, Best Plant-Based, Best Meat Sweats, Best Sweet Treat, Best In Show and Best Bang For your Buck. The second annual food truck wars is everything that food lovers have been craving for. With over 45 food trucks, a beer garden, market vendors and live entertainment, the festival guarantees a good time.

A spot to unwind after a long day – Hail Mary’s

There are a few themed bars in Vancouver that attract people who are looking to explore a different experience when they decide to go out. One of the themed bars that have special cocktails, mocktails and food is, Hail Mary’s.  The bar is located at 670 East Broadway, and it has some of the most interesting features that makes them stand out from other themed bars. This little gem is a place where people who are getting off work have an opportunity to unwind with a few drinks at a reasonable price. The bar has a cozy intimate setting which is perfect to experience with friends or family and it’s not a bad spot for a first date. There are no TV’s here to distract people from having a lovely conversation. They offer happy hour drinks and food from 5-6PM every day.  The names for some of their themed drinks are very clever and nudges people to try them. The staff are friendly and are very accommodating. Especially to people who want their regular drink order. Some of the drinks that have crafty names and tastes are the “Twisted Temperance” and the “Footprints in the Sand”.

The artworks that can be seen at this bar are very fitting to the theme of the place. The prices for the drinks and food is not overwhelming and is similar to most bars. One of the things that makes this place special is their washrooms. There are a lot of pictures on the mirror of the washroom and people like taking a selfie to remember the place. Although, they claim that they cannot turn water into wine, they do their best to keep customers satisfied through their cocktails which are crafted with care. The bar has a setting where people in groups of more than four people are required to be split up. They also put a time limit on tables that are not ordering steadily, which makes this the perfect place to visit with a good friend or two for a quick drink or meal.

The gaming enthusiasts spot – Glitch

There are tons of bars in Vancouver that bring something special to the table but very few of them can entertain customers to a level where people don’t mind spending more money or time there. The Glitch Retro Arcade Bar, located at 2287 West Broadway Street, is one of the places where people enjoy spending their time. Their unique combination of creating a bar and an arcade is the reason why people don’t hesitate when they think of visiting the place. One of the many reasons why people are drawn to this place is because of their daily happy hour menu. From 3 – 6 PM people get the opportunity to spend time at an entertaining place with cheap drinks! Although, the place has food, people don’t visit Glitch for the food. They visit because of the games and drinks. Glitch hosts events like Trivia nights on Tuesdays from 8-10 PM and Karaoke nights on Thursdays from 8PM-12AM where people can experience entertainment with friends and family.

A speakeasy with character – Key Party

Everyone has a friend that desires an adventure on a night out. These people are the right friends to have because they discover amazing places that are added to the list of spots that have meaning behind them. Some of the experiences that come from a spontaneous adventure of discovering something new leads to discovering places like the Key Party located at 2305 Main Street. This hidden gem is the perfect spot for a fun night out with special drinks! The Key Party is a speakeasy with intentional décor. Finding the place without knowing that it is a speakeasy will prove to be a challenge for anyone!

The speakeasy is behind the doors of what looks like an old accounting office with the name “Zottenberg & Sons Accounting”. Behind the door, there is a red walled room with velvet curtains and a custom-made curved wooden bar with a mural behind it. The theme of the place is clearly inspired by the 1970’s. Some of the names of the drinks are amusing because of their implications. “The Dirty-er Martini,” the “Birthday suit,” and “Bee on your knees” are just a few names for example. They specialize in creating a fabulous twist on original cocktails from the 60s and 70s. The names of the drinks and their taste impresses most people that look at their menu.

The concept, location, setting, drinks and snacks are all cleverly put together. This place is made to be discovered and experienced by people who love spontaneous adventures. Visiting this place with a friend or a date for the first time would create a memorable experience. The Key Party creates an atmosphere that replicates the 70’s with a modern twist. A place for wine and entertainment – La St-George Winery

One of the coolest wineries in Vancouver is located at the heart of Mount Pleasant at 7 E 7th Ave and its name is La St-George Winery. They have a lovely atmosphere at setting where they offer some of wines that they make on site. They make their wines in an ancient style of clay jar with hand-picked grapes that are the best in BC. They like to be called the “grape babysitters” because they believe the best tasting wines are made with the best farmed grapes and very little interference in the making process. They collect the best grapes for the job, stomp on them with their feet and ferment it with naturally occurring yeasts. Although, the foot stomping part is a turnoff for most people who find out about the process that goes behind creating wine, they are more than happy to enjoy it with a group of friends and family.

The food at the winery is market style. There is a picnic style layout to eat here. They provide a shopping cart that people can use to browse their market for items to make a custom picnic for their table. Some of the food that is featured in their supply of picnic items are tapas stuffed olives, freshly baked sourdough bed, Urban oven crackers, Spanish tinned seafood, Italian breadsticks, almonds, truffle chips, chicken liver mousse, salmon carpaccio, vegan options, chocolate and several other options.

Their unique concept is echoed in their selection of wines, food and setting. The Winery does a wonderful job of integrating entertainment to their venue. They have live music on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, where they bring in DJ’s, pianists and jazz artists to perform for the customers. They’ve even got Opera Nights on select Tuesdays. Madonna’s Celebration Tour starts in Vancouver?!

Many people consider the queen of pop to be Madonna and there are few people that try to dispute it. With fans from all over the world, it’s hard to not agree with the general consensus. Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions – A new addition to the list of places to check out

There’s more than meets the eye perfectly describes Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions. It’s a bar and grill with vintage interiors. It looks like a small house at first and it looks out of place when you compare it to the buildings and infrastructures around the place. The house was built in 1902 and it was called the Coulter House. It looks like a place that can accommodate very few people but when you enter the place, you realize that this is far from the truth. The interior is well designed and can accommodate more than a few people. Especially, when you consider the space at the patio in the back. There are two patios at the location. A small one at the front that can often be misleading but the larger one at the back is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon or evening with friends and family. The patio at the back has an amazing wall mural that people can admire while they enjoy the food, drinks and company of people at Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions.

One of the many things that makes this place unique is the rotating a la carte plates that change depending on the day. Another amazing segment of this place is their happy hour menu prices during the week from 3-6PM. They serve hot dogs for just $1.50 and special tater tots for $4. To make things better, they’ve even got a functioning jukebox that people can use to have an even better time with the people their with. Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions is located at 67 West 6th Avenue and their times of operations are different depending on the day. Connecting to the global ocean – The Ocean Festival is almost here!

Attending the IMPAX5 Ocean festival is a chance for people to experience different events and activities that are designed to connect people to marine wildlife and ecosystems. The intention of the festival is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the global ocean for the future generations.

The two-day festival comprises of many events and activities that are engaging and entertaining. One of the best parts about this festival is that it is free to attend, and all ages are welcome! The Jack Poole Plaza will host events and activities of the festival on February 3rd – 4th.  There will be live music featuring on both days. The lineup will include Old Soul Rebel, Delhi 2 Dublin, Alan Doyle, Storytelling of the Orca Chief by Henry Vickers, Chinook SongCatchers, The Wilds, Danny Michel, Yves Lambert Quartet, The Boom Booms with Ta’Kaiya Blaney, Ruby Waters, Shad, Steven Page and The Beaches. The live music provides people attending the festival to immerse themselves in a creative, entertaining and cultural experience. If music doesn’t resonate, then the activities are sure to enhance people’s connection to the festivals message. A refreshing art exhibition – Echo’s Bones

The Gallery Jones Fine Arts Ltd, which is located at 258 E, 1st Ave in Vancouver is currently showcasing the work of an artist named Pierre Coupey. The exhibition is called, “Echo’s Bones.” The paintings on display at the gallery has complex, vibrant and colorful layers to it. Coupey has stated that his interest is “not in representation by presentation.” This allows the person looking at these paintings to create their own meaning behind his work. The interpretations that people make from looking at these paintings are different. It reveals more about the person looking at the art than the art itself, or for that matter, even the artist.

Coupey has released several books of poetry, chapbooks and catalogues, and exhibited in solo and group shows on national and international level. His work has also been represented in several corporate, university and public collections across Canada. Over the many years of expressing himself through his work, he has honed the skill of improving and evolving as an artist. In 2013, Pierre Coupey received the Distinguished Artist Award from FANS in 2013 and has also been inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2018. People from all walks of life recognize his work and the contributions that he has made to Canada’s literary and artistic communities.

His extensive time spent producing art through paintings and literature in solo and group exhibitions make him one of the best Canadian artists of his time. His work inspires other artists and even people who appreciate artistic talent. From 1964 till now, he has showed his artistic prowess to the public. The inspiration behind his work has changed over the years to shape his style. People who love art or have a deep appreciation for it, need to take a look at his work to try and articulate the style that Coupey has.
