Braid StrEAT Experience Food Festival

I don’t know what it is about street food but there’s just something about it that makes it so good.

The Braid StrEAT Experience Food Festival is happening at the Braid Skytrain Station and features many great food trucks from the area.

The grills are fired up on May 21st from 11 am to 8 pm and they get re-lit on May 22nd at the same time.

  • Slavic Rolls
  • Rockey Point Ice Cream
  • Little Devils Wood Fire Pizza
  • G’ Donair’s
  • Its All About The Grill
  • Twisted Potato
  • Thai Box In Truck

Bring a blanket, sit on your tailgate, or relax in your lawn chair while enjoying music and delicious food.

Part of the proceeds will be going towards supporting the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.

Enjoy a bite to eat, live music, and know you’re helping out an amazing foundation.

Brahm’s Tams Stanley Park Drum Circle

You know the drumming is good when you can feel it through you’re entire body so why not go and check out Brahm’s Tams Stanley Park Drum Circle.

They meet at Stanley Park’s Third Beach every Tuesday evening from May through September and the forecast calls for sunshine.

It’s a huge event with their slower days still drawing out hundreds of people.

It’s a great walk along the Seawall and it can be heard a good ways away.

In the middle of the crowd are the musicians playing their djembes, which are West African-style rope-tuned goblet drums played with the bare hand, and the sound is amazing.

If you have your own djembe, it’s recommended you bring it to join in on the drumming action.

There are some officers grouped up at the edges of the event who are there in case things get out of hand.

Sometimes, they’ll wander the beach on horseback for a strange sight.

This is not run by a not-for-profit or other organization and is inspired by the Tam-Tams in Montreal, Quebec.

This is an amazing late-night event with amazing drumming and a great view of the sunset.

Student’s works showcased at the Burnaby Art Gallery

The Burnaby Art Gallery is showing off work from some of the students within the Burnaby School District in two showcases.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Arts Alive showcase in partnership with the Burnaby School District.

Senior students across the district were asked to make pieces responding to the theme Tapestry of Tales.

These pieces don’t stop at paintings. They use a wide range of materials like wire and clay to portray their creative processes.

This exhibition is happening in the lower gallery but more things are happening upstairs also!

Thresholds is an exhibition featuring the works of seven Burnaby Senior Secondary students in the Artist Apprenticeship Program.

This is the first time any of these students have had their work showcased in an art gallery.

The Artist Apprenticeship Program mentors students wanting to get into the fine arts and invites them to create an exhibition of their works.

Both of these exhibits are on until June 5th, and entrance is by donation.

Get out and see the amazing works and visions of these upcoming artists in Arts Alive, Tapestry of Tales in the lower gallery and Thresholds in the upper gallery at the Burnaby Art Gallery.

Vancouver’s Spot Prawn Festival

Hey look, I’ve spotted a prawn festival and it’s happening at Fisherman’s Warf.

Everything happens on May 15th and marks the beginning of British Columbia’s spot prawn season.

The festival is family-friendly and completely free to attend.

The festival ran on May 19th in 2019 and was cancelled in 2020 before being moved online for 2021.

Last year’s events included things like virtual cooking lessons.

This year, everything runs from 11 am to 3 pm and there’s a lot going on during that time.

This year, expect the free live cooking demonstrations to come back along with the musical performances on the docks. Wonder if they’re playing any sea shanties?

The food is also back with a 10-ounce bowl of chowder being $10 and a delicious brunch tasting menu for $65.

While you’re there, you can also get your fresh prawns from local fishers.

It’s great to see so many events going back to normal and this one is on that list.

Be sure to head out and share your love of prawns at Vancouver’s Spot Prawn Festival!

I’m still trying to figure out why there’s a festival all about spotting prawns.

Burnaby Farmers Market is back

As things open up from the COVID pandemic, why not go and support some of the local people that do things from growing produce to making jewelry.

The Burnaby Artisans Farmers Market started back up for the 2022 season last week and is hoping to run every Saturday from 10 am-2 pm until October.

You can even get some small craft-brewed beer and wine for when you get home.

These are just some of the things you can get from the 40-50 vendors that are set up every weekend.

There’s also some live music that makes for perfect entertainment with that popcorn.

Once you’re done you’re shopping, you can also take a wander through nearby Deer Lake Park or wander through the Burnaby Village.

This is all happening right outside Burnaby City Hall and is an event that you can’t forget.

If you’ve always wanted to ride a dinosaur, then you can do that with some of the largest rides in North America.

Don’t forget that there are also cute baby dinosaur and raptor training excersizes so you can be like Owen Grady.

You can also check out their giant fossil dig and try to find fossils of dinosaurs like the T-rex.

Don’t miss out on this experience as tickets are running out and it’s recommended to book your time online on their website.

Everything is time slotted to better manage the crowds so you aren’t shoulder to shoulder with everyone else.
