Thornhill | Bands To See In Van City

You may have seen one of my previous articles about bands to see in Van City where I talked about how you need to see Holding Absence the next time they come to Vancouver. I saw Holding Absence play live in concert in Vancouver and that is why I felt I could advocate for you to go see them in concert when they’re here.

Well, the thing is, there was another band I saw that night that was also spectacular and a band that you will surely enjoy if you’re into metal music. That band is Thornhill which is a band from Australia. Thornhill is a bit of a lesser-known band but they’re a band that has the potential to become really big. They have a very similar style to Deftones so if you’re into them then you will surely like Thornhill.

Seeing Thornhill at the Rickshaw Theatre in May was an absolute treat and their lead vocalist Jacob Thornhill has a very infectious voice that is very easy to listen to. Thornhill definitely has a bit of a different vibe than Holding Absence for example, but they are great to listen to, especially in concert.

Thornill only has two albums so far which are The Dark Pool and Heroine which are both fantastic albums. If I were to suggest a few songs to listen to by Thornhill, I would say “The Hellfire Club” which is a great song to start off with as it’s the opening song on Heroine and it is a song that is so easy to fall in love with. It’s probably one of my personal favourites as it just gives you a good feeling.

Another song I’d suggest is “Where We Go When We Die” which is the closing track on The Dark Pool and the journey this song takes you on is incredible. There are so many transitions and Jacob’s energy in this song is just spectacular. I don’t want to spoil too much because this song has a great first-listen experience.

The last song I’d suggest is their newest song called Viper Room. This song is very different from the rest of Thornhill’s discography but it is such an infectious song. This song might be indicative of where Thornhill will go with their music for their next release, but we will see how things go. Either way, this is a great song to listen to to go into Thornhill.

So now you are ready for a Thornhill concert and trust me they’re a band you are going to want to see when they’re back in Vancouver which might be very soon. So go listen to their music and prepare yourself for a phenomenal concert experience.

Maybe I’ll see you there too because you know damn well that I will be there!
