Will the Israel-Palestine Conflict Ever End?

When two nations are divided by territory, hate, and religion the outcomes are a decades-long tension that has passed down from generation to generation. This month, the Israeli and Palestinian conflict arose from its dormant state leaving casualties on both sides. Palestine has suffered a greater number of fatalities. Over the course of a few weeks, Palestine recorded over 200 deaths and Israel reported 10. Thousands of people in over 100 cities all over the world have participated in protests in support of Palestine.

Because of their losses and hardships, I will eternally extend my support to them as well. The question that has remained in my mind since I first heard of the conflict is: When will a true and lasting peace be achieved? How will it be achieved? One solution might be something like the Seeds of Peace. Seeds of peace is an organization that hosts summer programs allowing young people of different backgrounds to meet each other, create bonds, and discuss ways in which they could tackle a multi-generational war.

Initiatives like this might be the most the way out of the conflict. As the future of peace in the region depends on education. Are young people being educated to be tolerant? Are they being taught about diplomacy? And the common heritage that we all have? In most cases, they are not. In fact, the exact opposite happens in the Middle East and Israel. So much brainwashing occurs on both sides, that the majority of people have vilified their “opponent”. But if you can teach people to hate then you can most certainly teach people to love. The hope is that Palestinians and Israelis right now are safe and that one-day peace would prevail.
