BCIT announces new Chair and Vice Chair to Board of Governors

BCIT is pleased to announce that Doug Eveneshen has been elected by the Board of Governors as Board Chair effective June 25, 2019.

Doug graduated from BCIT in 1985 in Survey Technology, School of Construction and the Environment. He is the Chief Executive Officer at the Stabilization Credit Union and was formerly President and CEO of Community Savings Credit Union. He has been the Chair of the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation and continues to serve on their board. Doug, pictured above speaking at BCIT Convocation in June 2019, was previously a member and Treasurer of the Solutions Centre, a collaboration of 34 credit unions throughout BC.

The plan, which was guided and approved by the Board, is built upon empowering people, shaping BC, and inspiring global progress. Doug is dedicated to helping BCIT continue to anticipate and meet the evolving needs of learners, industry, and our faculty and staff.”

Doug is a Chartered Professional Accountant/Certified General Accountant and has an Executive MBA from Simon Fraser University. He has held senior management positions in retail and commercial lending, corporate cash management and treasury sales with major financial institutions throughout British Columbia and Alberta.

He has served on the BCIT Board of Governors since July 31, 2018. Previous Chair Kathy Corrigan successfully concluded her role in June 2019.

Cathy Young

Cathy Young has been elected by the Board of Governors as Board Vice Chair. Cathy is a Principal of Young Strategies Ltd., working as a governance and public-private partnership advisor to public sector clients by assisting them in corporate and project governance, as well as in the development of procurement processes, project planning, and commercial contract terms. Prior to forming Young Strategies Ltd, she was an Associate at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP and a Manager of Consulting at KPMG.

In the six years prior to her appointment to the BCIT Board of Governors in 2014, Cathy was a Governor at Vancouver Community College, including two years as Board Chair.

Cathy holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Bishop’s University in Quebec and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA) and a past member of the Law Society of BC.

Doug and Cathy are honoured to take their new positions, and look forward to continuing their work with the Board of Governors, BCIT leadership, and all members of the BCIT Community.
