Last week at the Enactus Western Canada Regional Competition in Calgary, the Enactus BCIT team showed off its outstanding presentation skills and desire to use entrepreneurship to give back to the community.  Four teams presented in four challenges—the Capital One Financial Education Challenge, the Scotiabank EcoLiving Green Challenge, the Scotiabank Youth Empowerment Challenge, and the TD Entrepreneurship Challenge.

First-year students, Stephanie Uittenbosch and Ezra Majnaric competed in the TD Entrepreneurship Challenge, sharing how Enactus BCIT is supporting local entrepreneurs through its Lions’ Lair workshop series and pitch competition.

As part of the Scotiabank Youth Empowerment Challenge, second-year student Meghan Chesshire and first-year student Carter Brooks showcased the club’s R.I.S.E program, which educates local youth in business communications, financial literacy, self-presentation, and career pathways.

Highlighting the club’s commitment to environmental responsibility, second-year student Angela Tramontin and first-year student Hamish Singh competed in the Scotiabank EcoLiving Green Challenge and introduced the judges to Enactus BCIT’s newest project, Social Cycle—which is partnering with the Plastic Bank to create a viable for-profit business that uses recycled materials to assist people in developing communities around the world.

Finally, first-year students Michelle Warren and Mitchell Walter showcased the financial literacy components of both the R.I.S.E youth empowerment program and the Lions’ Lair workshop series and brought home a trophy for first runner up in the Capital One Financial Education Challenge, which includes a $1000 cash prize.  Supported by an outstanding tech team (Nolan Akune, Max Huang, Ryan Judd, and Marguerite Gaylie) and the club’s President, Jared Fedosoff, and VP of Operations, Alina Doaga, the Enactus BCIT presenters showcased not only their exceptional presentation skills, but also the club’s outstanding community involvement.

Congratulations to Michelle, Mitch, and the whole Enactus BCIT team!

But Regionals is just the beginning of the Enactus team’s journey.  May 9-11 they will be presenting at the Enactus National Exposition.  The team will be competing on home turf this year, as Nationals are being held at the Vancouver Convention Centre.  Consider joining the nearly 3000 students from 68 schools who will be in attendance at Nationals to cheer on our Enactus BCIT team.
