Facing Your Fears Tips

Hey everyone!

For today I will be talking about facing your fears. Everyone is afraid of something. It’s just up to you how you want to handle that fear. Fears can hold us back from a lot of opportunities in life. Which is why I will be trying to help anyone with a few tips on how to overcome this.

1. Accept your fear

If a fear is consuming your life that is when it is a problem. You don’t want it to get to the point of you not being able to go out and experiencing things in life. If you let fear consume you it will hold you back form a lot of opportunities. The first thing you need to do is be able to accept your fear. You need to fully be aware of this until you begin taking steps in actually overcoming them.

2. Make sure it is Manageable

When you are trying to overcome your fear make sure you are doing it in steps. Try not to overwhelm yourself buy just doing one large goal. See if you can take smaller steps in order to lead you to accomplishing that large goal.

An example would be if you are trying to overcome stage fright. You can it break down by:

  • Practice speaking in front of a family member
  • Looking at yourself while you speak to yourself in front of a mirror.
  • Practice speaking in front of a good friend of yours
  • Then lastly speak in front of a group of friends and increase the number of people who are in that group slowly.

3. Know yourself

Make sure you really understand your strengths and weaknesses. The better to understand yourself the easier it is for you to know you can go about handling certain situations. Some people are naturally good at things. It doesn’t mean that you need to achieve that high of a standard. It just means you need to know how to at least get to a level that works well for you.

An example is maybe you are afraid of spiders. Now of course you won’t be like Steve Irwin who goes after the craziest things. But you can at least try facing your fears by not always running from a spider when you see them.

4. Look at things as an opportunity

Try not to think of things so much as a fear but as an opportunity. Look every task you are afraid of completing and try to see what the pros are from accomplishing them. See what other opportunities comes with completing that task as well.

An example is when you want to become a manager at a job you are working at but you are afraid of applying for that position. This might be because you are doubting yourself and you don’t have the confidence. But in reality anyone can accomplish being a manager if you have the dedication and hard work put into it. You should first look at the pro’s of being a manager. I am not saying it in a money point of view but what value you get out of it personally. Is it the

  • friendships you will be able to make?
  • various skills you will be able to learn or improve on? etc

Overall, try focusing on what you are afraid of and work on it. You will begin noticing that you will have a lot more opportunities in life. If you want to grow in life you will always have to find ways to improve yourself. This means not running away from what scares you and facing them.
