Forensic Nurses Week November 11-15

Time-Lapse Decomposition Video

A pig in the initial stages of decomposition.This past July, BCIT Forensics hosted a Forensic Entomology course at the BCIT Woodlot instructed by Dr. Gail Anderson. The field day involved over 20 students collecting insects, bugs, and other forensic evidence from 7 pigs that had been left in the forest to decompose. Below you will find links to a time-lapse video of the decomposition of one of the pigs over a period of 5 days:

Winter 2014 Course Schedule Has Been Posted

A pile of books on a field of snow with a coffee cup balanced on top.I heard my first Christmas advertisement on the radio a few days ago, so it can’t be too hard to imagine that Winter is upon us…

I recently uploaded our Winter term 2014 course schedule to our website, so you can use it to plan your course load for January-March 2014. BCIT has recently updated the way it displays courses online, hopefully making it easier for you guys to find and enroll in them.

Some important dates to remember:
◾November 1st – Web preview (You can see the Winter 2014 courses online, but can’t register for them yet)
◾November 3rd – Web registration opens (You can start registering online)
◾November 4th – General registration opens (You can now register by any method)

So go ahead and plan for your next semester and get ready to register before important courses fill up!

It’s also important to note that, starting May 13th, BCIT has changed its payment options for courses. Find out more by visiting the BCIT website.

Forensics Info Session Coming Up on September 16th

Information ButtonFor those of you looking for more information about BCIT Forensic Science and Technology programs, please join us at our information session on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Downtown Campus starting at 5:30pm.

At the info session, each Program Coordinator does a general presentation about their option, giving you tips on how to apply, when to apply, and what the career prospects are in their area. After the presentation, the attendees are divided up according to the option they’re most interested in and then are given more in-depth information from their particular Program Coordinator. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions specific to your circumstances and background, to see if your career aspirations line-up with what we have to offer.

Program Review Survey for Forensics Students and Alumni

By completing this survey, students and alumni can provide us with valuable information to help the school assess the strengths of our programs and graduates, and identify which areas may need improvement. This 10 minute survey is completely confidential and conducted by an online survey tool. BCIT Forensic Science and Technology Is Now on Facebook!

Why would you want to follow us on Facebook? Because I’m going to start posting tidbits of information there that you won’t necessarily find on this here blog. There is also going to be a contest in the near future to win another VISA gift card for liking our Facebook page. Plus, Facebook is a great place for you guys to start interacting with each other, myself and any other staff I can drag over there.
