The Crime Prevention Programs Facilitator performs public education work of moderate complexity related to delivering and promoting community crime prevention programs in support of the RCMP Crime Reduction Strategy (CRS) for the City of Burnaby. An incumbent in this position facilitates workshops, provides presentations, and liaises with a variety of community partners, the public, as well as RCMP and city employees. The Crime Prevention Programs Facilitator is also responsible for conducting security assessments of properties, drafting detailed reports for review by a supervisor.

Forensic Health Sciences Staff Attended the International Conference on Forensic Nursing Science and Practice
The International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) held their International Conference on Forensic Nursing Science and Practice in Anaheim, California from October 21-24, 2013. There were just over 700 attendees from various countries around the world. This was a record attendance for the IAFN.
The conference featured workshop tracks in the following areas: administrative and leadership, death investigations, general forensic and legal, intimate partner violence, pediatrics, psychiatry and corrections and sexual assault nurse examiners (SANE).
Toxicology Quality Assurance and Technical Manager Position Available
The Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Centre of Forensic Sciences, seeks forensics expertise in toxicology and quality assurance to manage the framework for the delivery of forensic toxicology casework services across the province. BC’s Criminal Justice Review
Patrick Neal, Program Coordinator for the Crime and Intelligence Analysis option, wanted to bring BC’s current review of the criminal justice system to students’ attention and provide them with some reading material to familiarize themselves with possible changes. He writes:

Seats Still Available in FSCT 8230 – The Medicolegal Aspects of Alcohol
This course examines the pharmacological and physiological effects of alcohol consumption on the human body. The theoretical basis and practical applications of various technologies, both laboratory based and field use based, that are currently utilized to determine blood alcohol concentration in the body will be thoroughly reviewed. Students will be given practical training in the usage of Approved Screening Devices and Evidentiary Breath Testing Instruments.
FSCT 8230 is a great course for those interested in working in a forensic laboratory or those involved in investigations where the recognition and/or measurement of alcohol and drug impairment is required. Furthermore, this is an excellent course for paralegals, lawyers, or others in the legal profession who would like to gain a better understanding of the actual application and interpretation of the obtained blood alcohol concentrations results within a courtroom setting.

The Crime Analyst position specializes in research work involving the application of complex research techniques to support criminal investigative activities, operational programs and crime reduction strategies. Duties The successful candidate will provide statistical, tactical and strategic crime analysis services and intelligence information to management. You would be required to review police occurrence files to determine immediate crime problems and patterns of criminal activity; evaluate and validate intelligence information gathered from various sources; and develop and maintain comprehensive files, records and documentation. The Crime Analyst will also deliver presentations, briefings, and situation reports on crime trends and related matters. In addition, the successful candidate will establish and maintain working relationships with members, staff and external agencies.
