The BCIT Forensic Science and Technology program (Forensic Science, Crime and Intelligence and Computer Crime options) is conducting a program review survey. By completing this survey, students and alumni can provide us with valuable information to help the school assess the strengths of our programs and graduates, and identify which areas may need improvement. This 10 minute survey is completely confidential and conducted by an online survey tool. If you’re interested in completing this survey before August 22, 2013, please contact Jason_Moore@bcit.ca and identify whether you are a current student or an alumnus in your email to Jason.

A Report on Forensic Science in Canada
Dean Hildebrand, Associate Dean of Forensics here at BCIT, wanted me to make available to our students and visitors a report that was recently prepared by the University of Toronto’s Centre of Forensic Science and Medicine titled, Forensic Science in Canada: a multi-disciplinary discussion (also known as the Hart House Report). The report represents the efforts of various forensic scientists from all over Canada that attended a 2 day meeting at Hart House at the University of Toronto in May 2012, to discuss the status for forensic science in Canada.
The report describes the activities of the major forensic disciplines in the areas of: service, education, and research. The report also includes recommendations aimed at growing and developing forensic science. The hope was that academic institutions; governments; professional associations and societies; and forensic stakeholders find the report informative and that tabling this report becomes the necessary first step in progressing and modernizing forensic science in Canada, in the 21st century.
