Halloween is back!

Halloween is back for the first time since 2019 as houses decorate and prepare for the first big rush since the start of Covid-19.

Halloween was put on hold back in 2020 as Covid numbers stayed consistently high and going door to door for candy was no longer a viable option for kids.

Now Covid-19 is nowhere near as prominent as it was here in British Columbia and trick or treaters plan to flood back on to the streets to gather up their candy. Trick or treaters aren’t the only thing returning though as parties are surfacing left and right this weekend as well as a thriller dance party with no pandemic restrictions set in place.

It is also evident that the houses in B.C. Are also ready for trick or treaters to be back as they are decorated in ways we haven’t seen since 2019’s Halloween.

Its nice to see Halloween culture back in B.C.

Carey Price “unable to train at professional level”

The Montreal Canadians goalie Carey Price played just 5 games last year near the end of the regular season and has had hopes of recovering his knee since.

However, he states that his rehab “hasn’t been successful” and surgery doesn’t look to be a good option either.

“We’ll have to take it step by step. I don’t have a plan to retire right at this moment,” he said. “Right now, my goal is to just be pain-free from day to day. I’m still having some issues getting up and down stairs and carrying my kids up and down stairs is difficult.”

This will upset Montreal Canadians fans as they have long hoped for a return from the beloved goalie. Price got a standing ovation in his latest appearance at a game while just watching.

Right now a return to the ice just doesn’t seem plausible for Carey Price anytime soon or ever, but fans will hold out hope for Price to return to the game.

The Downfall Of Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo is a Australian Formula one driver with multiple wins in the sport including a inaugural  win at the Canadian Grand Prix. He was largely considered the best driver on the F1  grid for many years and many experts of the sport said Daniel Ricciardo would be a world champion one day given the right car and team.

However these past two years have been nothing but tragedy for Daniel Ricciardo, as he has underperformed his new Mclaren car and got beaten by his teammate in the same car almost every single race. Next year Daniel Ricciardo will be forced to leave the sport due to his poor performance at Mclaren. So what happened to the former #1 driver on the grid?

The Mclaren car just isn’t suited for his driving style. Daniel Ricciardo was well known as “the king of the late breakers” because of his last millisecond touches on the breaks that would allow him to pass others with ease. But while the Mclaren car may be fast, its fast in a straight line allowing it to pass other cars before the breaking zone but must brake much earlier. Daniel Ricciardo has credited that reason many times on why his pace seems to be different.

The passion just isn’t there anymore though. Even in a competitive car that suits his driving style many doubt if Daniel Ricciardo would be able to once again fight for wins. As Ricciardo made his come up in the sport he would often speak of his hopes and ambitions to be world champion. But that passion has clearly faded as Ricciardo now says he would be content if he never became world champion.

Daniel always will be a fan favourite in the sport so it truly is sad to see his fall from grace and many will miss him on the grid next year.

Raptors bring the Heat!

When the Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat face off expect fireworks on both ends of the court.

“Its always mayhem.” Says Raptors guard Fred VanVleet.

The two teams have faced off in two games in a row now with the Raptors losing the first one by just three points. However, the raptors were able to rally last night and got the win against the Miami Heat 98-90. Expect to see both these teams very competitive with each other throughout the year.

“It was great, you know, obviously coming out here early in the season will help us in the long run. You know we’re on the road, tough battles, having to win in the fourth quarter, having to get stops, that can all be building blocks for the season.” Said Trent Jr of the Raptors.

Up next for the Raptors is another two game series this time against the 76ers, who eliminated the Raptors from the playoffs last year in the playoffs in a close 4-2 series which saw the Raptors getting better as the series went on. Will the Raptors once again show they can rally in these close games and get the best of the 76ers in this two game series? Or will they once again fall to the 76ers?

Be sure to tune in and support Canadas only local basketball team the Toronto Raptors!

Another Bad Night For Canucks

The Canucks lost yet another game last night keeping their record of the only team in the league yet to win a game after losing 2-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes. Both goals for the Canucks were scored by JT Miller.

This loss can yet again be summed up to not being able to show up in the third period. Team captain Bo Horvat states that this is frustrating and unacceptable as a team. Meanwhile head coach Bruce Boudreau says his team seems “afraid to win” at times.

However, the Canucks bad record cant only be summed up by their inability to close in the third as Quinn Hughes, Travis Dermott and Tucker Poolman are all out with injuries, ruining the teams defence. It seems as though this team can’t catch a break in any areas.

The cherry on the cake is that the team president of hockey ops Jim Rutherford indicated the team “may very well be in rebuild.” The problem with considering a rebuild at this moment for the Canucks is that the team is not currently built around a rebuild after trading away future prospects to the Arizona Coyotes last year, signing JT Miller to an 8 year contract, and signing Conor Garland to a 5 year extension.

However, there is no denying that something big needs to change within this organization wether that be yet again hiring a new coach or trading their negative team captain.

Giants with a comeback victory for the ages!

The Vancouver Giants seem to be Vancouvers best hope at a winning hockey team this year as the giants win in amazing comeback fashion Saturday night.

http://

With just 1.4 seconds left in the game Samuel Honzek tied the game up 5-5 and sent the giants into a overtime battle. Zack Ostapchuk was able to get the goal in the first period of overtime and won the game for the giants.

Last night the Giants faced Kamloops team the Blazers and took the win in an exciting match up 6-3. While the giants still have a losing record this year at least they’ve been able to put some wins on the board unlike our other local hockey team.

Battle Grappling has the best grapplers in the world!

In the small town of Bellingham, just 1 hour away from Vancouver a big time show grows and showcases some of the best Jiu Jitsu grapplers not only in the Pacific North West, but the entire world.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj4a9CLr9iS/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Battle Grappling hosted its latest event October 15th and was built around a 170 pound 16 man bracket with $1000 on the line. The bracket hosted big names from the Jiu Jitsu scene such as Harrison Woods a two time IBJJF world champion, Joshua Bacallao a two time IBJJF open champion, and the organizations current 170 champion Brandon Todd. However, with the current champion being dethroned in the first round of the tournament you could already tell that this bracket was something special. Meanwhile the main event for the night hosted the current best 145 pound fighter in the Pacific North West Zack Schneider vs the Interim champion Jordan Wirth. All that as well as a plethora of super fights scattered throughout the whole night.

But how did this local event grow big enough to start to gain attention from some of the best grapplers in the world? The promoters Laura and Hunter were a big part of making that happen, handling all the events since the beginning very professionally, paying the local athletes what they could, and getting a contract with grapplings biggest streaming service Flograppling to stream their events. The other part of gaining traction for this event was the original athletes going out to the mats with intent to kill or be killed. Out of 26 matches on the last show only 2 went to overtime.

This event is truly growing to be something special and will only continue to do so with the next show fast approaching on February 11th 2023. That event will be an all women’s show which will be the first of its kind on Flograppling. If you’re interested in a day trip to watch a amazing event get your tickets fast for this show.

Canucks Booed On Home Ice

The Vancouver Canucks suffered a 5-1 loss from the Buffalo Sabres Saturday night at Rogers Arena. The home fans seemed unimpressed by the Canucks effort and started to boo the team in the middle of the third period.  The Canucks had a good second period so the lack of effort came as a shock even to their head coach!

“I don’t get how a team that hasn’t won a game — and you have a really good second period — isn’t excited about coming out in third and doing the same thing as you did in the second.” said head coach Bruce Boudreau.

The third period started with a  potential goal from Vinnie Hinostroza called off giving the Canucks a sliver of hope, only to be scored on again just 30 seconds later. This is around when fans started to boo the team and some fans even threw their jerseys on the ice.

A truly embarrassing night and season to be a Canucks fan as the the Canucks are the only team in the NHL to not win a single game yet this season.

Canadian F1 Driver Causes Big Accident

Canadian F1 driver Lance Stroll was involved in a big accident this weekend while racing at the Circuit Of The America this past Sunday.

Stroll was defending against Spaniard Fernando Alonso who was trying to pass him on the inside of the straight. Stroll, who was trying to hold on to his best position of the season at 6th place moved to his left aggressively to cut Alonso off leading to a big accident between the two. Lance was spun around with debris flying off his car left and right. He was forced to retire his car right in the middle of the track and a safety car was deployed in the race.

Fernandos car went flying into the air with both front wheels completely off the ground. Alonsos car then hit the wall but he was still able to continue in the race and make his way back up to 7th after moving all the way to the back after his accident. This is a great testament to Alonsos skill.

Check out the accident here: https://youtu.be/y_GgM-3zOnk

However, both these drivers suffered penalties as a result of this crash. Canadas Lance Stroll was handed a 3 place grid penalty for the next race as a result of causing the collision and Fernando Alonso was given a 30 second penalty for racing with a still damaged car, sending him all the way down to 15th place. However racing with a damaged car makes his recovery that more impressive.

Both these drivers will be teammates next year at Aston Martin Racing the team owned by Lance Strolls billionaire Canadian father Lawrence Stroll. This is not the best start for their on track chemistry.
