Summer is on its way, and with it comes the much-anticipated reopening of BC’s largest water park: Cultus Lake Waterpark.

This classic destination promises to cool down those hot summer days. The adventure kicks off on June 8, and I must admit, as it’s my first summer here, I’m super excited to check it out for the first time.

Cultus Lake Waterpark, together with Cultus Lake Adventure Park, has been a summer tradition since 1984, started and is still operated by a local family. While the adventure park has been open for a few weeks, the water park had us waiting eagerly. The wait is over!

Starting June 8, the park will open on weekends until June 22. After that, it will be open daily until September 2. To celebrate the opening, the park is offering an $8 discount on all tickets. This includes all-day passes, half-day, and evening tickets.

With over 11 water slides, five large hot tubs scattered throughout the park, a lazy river, and four areas dedicated to kids, Cultus is considered the biggest water park in the province. Plus, it has five food outlets, 150 covered picnic tables, locker rentals, BBQs, and lots of grassy areas to relax.

Tickets will go on sale soon. The park offers special rates for school groups, discounts for evening entries, post-school promotions, VIP cabana rentals, and early booking throughout the season.

For more details and information about the tickets, visit: [LINK]

Here’s a tip: it’s advisable to buy your tickets in advance. The place gets really busy, and if you leave it until the last minute, you might miss out, as there will be no ticket sales at the gate if they sell out online.

Located at 4150 Columbia Valley Hwy in Cultus Lake, BC, Cultus Lake Waterpark promises to be the perfect retreat for those seeking adventure and an escape from the summer heat. I’m already counting the days until I can dive into those slides! What about you, are you going to miss it?

So, who else is planning to visit Cultus Lake Waterpark this summer? Share your expectations in the comments or leave a reply below!

Canada vs Brazil at the Volleyball Nations League: It’s Now or Never!

Today, something big is about to go down at Maracanãzinho in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. Our Canadian women’s volleyball team is facing off against Brazil in a key match of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League. And, listen, this isn’t just any game; it’s Canada’s shot at ending a nearly three-decade-long wait for an Olympic spot since Atlanta 1996.

With the world rankings tight and the scramble for a spot in Paris 2024, our players have a serious challenge ahead. Brazil, already qualified for the Olympics and playing on home turf, is coming in strong, but we know our Canadian team means business.

Who could forget the last VNL in 2023? It was electrifying: we beat the Brazilians in an epic five-set match!

This recent victory has boosted the team’s confidence, but it also brings pressure—the expectations are sky-high. Shannon Winzer, the team’s coach, made it clear that reaching Paris is more than just the effort of the 14 players selected. “It’s a collective effort that involves every player and the entire coaching staff,” she said, stressing the importance of teamwork.

Facing Brazil now is not just a chance for revenge, but a golden opportunity to prove we deserve a spot among the best on the Olympic stage. A win here would not only earn us crucial ranking points but also a massive morale boost.

So, if you’re a volleyball fan, you can’t miss this game. It’s a chance to see a team that grows, overcomes, and never gives up. With a mix of veterans and rising talents, we’re ready to surprise and fight for a spot in Paris.

Be sure to catch this epic battle. Tune into VBTV from Tuesday at 5:00 PM (PDT) and cheer on the Canadians! Let’s show the world the strength and determination of Canada.

Olympic Qualifier Series: Meet the Canadian Athletes in Breaking and Climbing Who Might Shine at Paris 2024

As the world prepares for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Canada presents a strong list of potential athletes who could reach the new competitions. This year, breaking and climbing will not only test the limits of physical ability but also showcase the unique talents of Canadians on the global stage.

Breaking, a dynamic street dance that started in the 70s, is set to make its Olympic debut in Paris in 2024.

Originally a cultural expression on the streets of New York, it has evolved into a full-fledged Olympic sport.

The Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) is where dancers get to showcase their skills. This sport mixes flexibility, technique, and even a little theater, as each movement tells a story.

The competitors, known as b-boys and b-girls, face each other in exciting battles, very similar to a boxing duel, but at the rhythm dictated by the DJ. Although stars such as American Victor and Lithuanian Nicka are already guaranteed a place in Paris, it is worth keeping an eye on emerging talents on this global stage.

Among the potential Canadian representatives, two names from Vancouver stand out: Phil Wizard. Phil Wizard is known for his refined technique and ability to pull off complex and innovative moves.

He is a prominent figure in the Canadian breaking scene and carries Canada’s hopes for medals in Paris.

Moving to sport climbing, this Olympic discipline is no less thrilling. Paris 2024 will feature climbing competitions in two distinct formats: speed, and a combination of a boulder and lead. Each format challenges athletes in different ways, demanding not just physical strength but also strategy and technique.

From Canada, Sean McColl and Alannah Yip, both from North Vancouver, have already secured their spots. Sean started climbing at 10 and quickly made a name for himself with his versatility and technical skill in all climbing disciplines. His career includes multiple world championship wins, making him an inspiration to many young climbers.

Alannah Yip started even younger, at 6, and excelled with her strength and skill in bouldering, as well as competing in lead and speed. Her dramatic qualification for Tokyo 2020 at the Pan-American Climbing Championship showcased her exceptional talent and determination.

With the OQS and the upcoming Olympics, we have a unique opportunity to see our athletes in action. It’s a time to support our local heroes, feel the thrill of the Olympic Games, and perhaps witness history in the making. These events are not just competitions; they are a celebration of human talent, dedication, and passion for sports.

So, let’s cheer for our breaking and climbing athletes!

Who are you looking forward to seeing compete in the OQS? What are your expectations for Paris 2024?

Leave your comment below and let’s discuss the exciting Olympic journey that’s about to begin!

Toronto in the Race to Host the MLB All-Star Game: A Golden Opportunity!

There’s a lot of buzz around the possibility of Toronto hosting an upcoming MLB All-Star Game.

With MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred set to visit the Rogers Centre, expectations are high. Manfred, who’s in his final term ending in July 2029, mentioned that the 2027 and 2028 games could go to cities like Toronto and Chicago. For Toronto, which hasn’t hosted the event since 1991, this would be a triumphant return.

After the last game against the Mariners, Blue Jays President Mark Shapiro expressed optimism, saying there’s a “good chance” Toronto will be picked in the next four to five years. Toronto isn’t just a strong contender because of its world-class stadium and vibrant multicultural vibe, but also due to the recent success of the Blue Jays, who’ve rejuvenated their fan base with a young and exciting roster.

The economic benefits of hosting the All-Star Game are massive. The event spans several days, including the Home Run Derby and FanFest, drawing tens of thousands of visitors not to mention the lasting impact it could have in strengthening Toronto’s legacy as a top-tier baseball destination, inspiring young athletes, and promoting the sport across Canada.

Of course, hosting the All-Star Game also comes with challenges. Toronto’s weather can be unpredictable in the summer, and while the Rogers Centre’s retractable roof is practical, it doesn’t offer the same appeal as an open-air stadium. Plus, careful planning would be needed to avoid clashing with other big events in the city.

Despite the challenges, the optimism is high. Manfred’s visit is seen as a positive sign, and Toronto’s experience in hosting major sporting events like the Pan American Games and the NBA All-Star Weekend only boosts its chances.

It might still be a while before an official announcement, but Toronto is gearing up to welcome baseball’s stars and show off its passion for the game soon.

So, what do you all think about Toronto’s chances? Are we ready to host the MLB stars?

Please, drop your comments below, and let’s chat about this exciting possibility!

Discover North Vancouver’s Vibrant Night: The Shipyards Night Market is Back!

Just imagine, after a long day, finding a place where you can unwind, enjoy a great craft beer, and dig into some delicious food. Are you feeling the vibe? That’s what the Shipyards Night Market in North Vancouver is all about. It happens every Friday from May to September.

Last year, I got to check it out, and boy, what an experience! Between a cold beer and some mouth-watering food, I also got lost in the live music filling the night.

Located at the Shipbuilders’ Square at the end of Lonsdale Avenue, this event isn’t just a market, it’s a festival. You won’t find cheap trinkets here. The focus is on quality, from handmade jewelry to homemade jams, artisan chocolates, and a selection of organic products. It’s an invitation to appreciate the work of local craftspeople while enjoying some good music outdoors.

And that’s not all, while the market goes on under the open sky, inside The Pipe Shop, the Made in the 604 Markets craft market takes place, offering even more local and handmade products.

Each Friday brings a new surprise. The bands and artists change weekly, always keeping things fresh. And if you, like me, love a good beer, you can’t miss the market’s beer garden. I remember the lively atmosphere well, with people chatting, laughing, and just enjoying the setting.

At The Shipyards Night Market, entertainment is a vital part of the experience, making every visit unique and memorable. The entertainment lineup is diverse, with a mix of live music spanning various genres, ensuring there’s something for everyone. From local bands to solo artists, from jazz to rock and pop, live music is the beating heart of the market as the sun sets.

Each week brings new artists to the stage, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. For example, you might start the evening with a smooth jazz band. As the night moves on, the beat might switch to something more upbeat, like a rock band or a pop group that gets everyone up and dancing.

Besides musical performances, the market often hosts special events like local talent competitions, offering a platform for new artists to showcase their skills. These nights are particularly special because you can feel the energy and support of the local community.

Tips to make the most of the market’s entertainment:

  1. Arrive early: This gives you a chance to explore the stalls and pick a good spot before the performances start. Plus, it lets you enjoy the relaxed atmosphere before the crowd arrives.
  2. Check the schedule in advance: Look at the market’s official website or their social media to see which artists will be performing. This way, you can plan your visit around the shows you most want to see.
  3. Explore the venue: Between performances, take a walk around the market. Take time to check out the craft stalls, try different dishes from the food trucks, or simply enjoy a craft beer while the next band sets up.
  4. Participate: Often, there are interactions between the artists and the audience, like dance-offs, sing-alongs, or even invitations to come up on stage. Getting involved in these moments can enrich your experience even more.

The Shipyards Night Market is not just a place to shop; it’s a cultural event that celebrates music, art, and community. With an always-evolving entertainment schedule, each visit promises to be as unique and memorable as the last.

Easily accessible, the market is just a five-minute walk from the SeaBus terminal at Lonsdale Quay. My tip? Leave the car at home and come by public transit. Not only do you avoid the struggle for parking space, but you can also enjoy the local beers worry-free.

Have you been to the Shipyards Night Market? Do you have any tips or stories to share?

Please drop a comment below and let’s keep the conversation going! Remember to plan your next visit; a fantastic night awaits you.

Noah Juulsen Steps Up: A Game-Changer for Canucks?

Noah Juulsen is hitting the ice again for the Vancouver Canucks this Tuesday, and the timing couldn’t be more crucial. It’s been since April 23 that Juulsen last played, and he’s stepping in to fill the skates of Carson Soucy, who got a one-game suspension. Why the suspension? Soucy delivered a cross-check right to the face of Connor McDavid, the star of the Edmonton Oilers, as McDavid was falling towards him at the end of Game 3.

The Canucks, who currently lead the series 2-1 after their 4-3 win on Sunday, find themselves at a critical juncture with Juulsen in the game. They’re just one win away from pushing the Oilers to the brink of elimination, and Juulsen’s role could be key.

Canucks’ coach Rick Tocchet openly expressed his relief and confidence in having Juulsen ready: “Lucky for us to have him as our seventh defenseman. Juulsen’s been a solid contributor all year and has faced some tough spots. We’re really confident in ‘Juuls’.”

Juulsen, 27, only made one appearance in this year’s playoffs, in Game 2 of the first round against the Nashville Predators, where he played for 11:24 minutes and ended with a minus-1. During the regular season, though, he notched one goal and seven points, averaging 14:53 of ice time.

“We’ve been doing that all year,” Juulsen said about rotating in and out of the lineup. “Guys have been shuffled in and out, and those who come in, pick up the pace as well. Obviously, the longer you’re out, the tougher it gets. But as a group, we try to stay engaged and on top of things as best we can.”

Meanwhile, Soucy, who will now be watching from the sidelines, had four assists in nine games this postseason and during the regular season added two goals and six points in 40 games.

With the stakes getting higher and expectations rising, can Juulsen push the Canucks to another crucial win? That’s the big question and everyone is keen to see what he can bring back to the ice.

So, what do you think Juulsen’s return will mean for the Canucks’ game? Do you think he’s going to shake things up or is it just another day at the office?

Lost Lake: A Hidden Gem Destination to relax this summer

If you’re in Vancouver or nearby and looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, let me tell you about Lost Lake in Whistler—it’s a surprisingly charming destination. Just an hour and a half drive from downtown Vancouver, this lake offers a peaceful retreat with a tempting mix of natural activities and scenic beauty.

I’ve been there myself and let me tell you, it’s absolutely gorgeous. From hiking and biking trails in the summer to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, there’s always something exciting to do.

In the summer, the park turns into the perfect getaway with its beach and swimming area. Picture yourself chilling on the sand or taking a cool dip in the crystal-clear waters of the lake. I must admit, I haven’t gone for a swim there yet, but I’m already planning to go back there this summer to jump in! There are picnic areas and trails for walking and biking that are just ideal for a day out in the fresh air.

During the winter months, from December 15 to March 31, the park transforms into a haven for snow sports enthusiasts. The trails are meticulously maintained to offer the best cross-country skiing experience, with over 25 km of routes to explore. And even in the cold, the beauty of the place is breathtaking.

The park is also fully accessible, with adapted parking spots, bathrooms, and picnic tables, ensuring everyone can enjoy the space. There’s even an accessible outdoor shower, which is a big plus! Access to the lake is made easy by a free bus service from Whistler Village during the summer months, ensuring everyone can enjoy this beautiful spot without worries about parking or traffic.

Facilities include equipment rentals and a snack bar for when you get hungry after a day of adventures. It’s important to note that in the summer, the area welcomes food trucks as part of the city’s Park Eats program, offering tasty food options.

Remember, the park has specific rules to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone. Pets have designated areas, and there are clear regulations about smoking and alcohol consumption. And don’t forget: there’s no lifeguard on duty, so always be cautious near the water.

Lost Lake Park isn’t just a place, it’s an experience. It’s the perfect escape to break away from routine and connect with nature. No matter the season, each visit is unique and I guarantee it’s worth checking out!

So, if you’re looking to reconnect with nature or just find a quiet place to escape daily stress, why not put Lost Lake on your list?

UnexpectedMove: Blue Jays Fans Outraged by “Home Plate Lady’s” New Spot

When it comes to baseball, we all know that every little detail of the stadium adds to the game experience. But when the Blue Jays decided to move the iconic “Home Plate Lady” to a new spot after renovating Rogers Centre, the fans were not pleased at all. Let’s dive into this drama!

Who Is the Home Plate Lady?

For those out of the loop, the Home Plate Lady is that symbolic fan of the Blue Jays. She’s been a fixture for years with her serious demeanor and strategic spot right behind home plate, visible to everyone. She even got a cardboard cutout tribute during the border closure in the pandemic. Picture this: she returns to live games in 2021, and the whole stadium stands up to applaud her. That’s some serious respect, right?

Rogers Centre Renovation: Looks Good, Costs More!

The stadium underwent a renovation costing a whopping $400 million. Sure, there were improvements that got some praise, but they shuffled the layout so much that even the seasoned ticket holders are paying more for less appealing seats. And what about the Home Plate Lady, moved to a less visible corner? The big question is whether it was her choice or not. From the fans’ reactions, it seems like the Blue Jays are more focused on making money than maintaining fan loyalty.

More Than Just a Seat

The Home Plate Lady is more than just a regular fan; she’s part of the team’s soul. And even with the thrilling victory over the Mariners, the fans are still focused on her saga.

She might not care much about the change, but she’s become a symbol of the fans’ frustration with renovations that, no matter how expensive, can’t replace the human essence that sports carry.

The renovation brought some new stuff, but is it worth it if it means losing touch with the people who really make a difference in the stands?
