Jags At Hawks

This Sunday the Seattle Seahawks play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 1 pm PST window and this game holds heavy importance for the rest of the Seahawks season. With Russell Wilson being out for the past 2 weeks and again for this week’s game, the Seahawks have struggled offensively and with a loss this week to the Jags the season is all but over. A loss here would result in Seattle being 2-6 which would mean the team would have to win all 9 remaining games to reach 11-6, which in the NFC is the standard that most teams need to make the playoffs. Winning out isn’t an easy task however as the Seahawks still face tough competition in the weeks ahead. Facing top teams like Green Bay in week 10, followed by the Cardinals in week 11 and week 18, as well as the Rams in week 15. So with their backs up against the wall, this is the time the Seahawks must win.

So how do the Seattle Seahawks matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars? Well, if Russell Wilson set to start the game there wouldn’t be a doubt in my mind that the Seahawks would come out with a win. But, unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Geno Smith will be the man under centre come Sunday and so far Geno hasn’t been able to come out with a win. In the past few weeks the Seahawk’s defence has improved… still not playing great but an improvement. This will be the key for this match-up, as Geno and the offence haven’t been able to put points up on the board. So, if Seattle’s D can stand up and stop rookie quarterback Trevor Lawerance and James Robinson out of the backfield then the Seahawks should have a real chance.

If the Seahawks D can hold strong the offence still needs to put points on the board to win. Since Russell Wilson has been out Pete Carroll has been focusing on the running game, which worked well against the Pittsburg Steelers where Alex Collins rushed for 101 yards on 20 attempts but failed the following week when Collins could only rush for 35 yards. The upside to this is that Jacksonville is below the league average when it comes to defending against the run. With the Seahawks defence coming through and the running game going strong Seattle should have enough to overcome the Jags and win a must-win game.
