VIFF 2021 – Highlighting Music in Film

VIFF 2021, or the Vancouver International Film Festival, is going to be the place to be for all you fans of Vancouver films, and the fantastic music that brings them together into the masterpieces you know and love. It will be a three-day event featuring some of music’s greats, all starting this weekend October 8th through to the 10th. Being nominated for a Golden Globe, a Grammy, and a Critics Choice Award as a producer, American producer/songwriter Linda Perry will be starring live with Jane Aurora, talking about Perry’s career and creative process. And that’s just the first day! There is much to look forward to during this year’s VIFF, and it’s bound to be a beautiful celebration of networking, and celebration for the film and music industry working together.

On Saturday, hosted by Tarun Nayar, there will be a wonderfully diverse panel of talented artists who have not only become bigger parts of media with their music, but are also here to share their experiences in how they began to make music for a wider range of media usage. Isabella “The Machine” Summers, who is well known for her work on “Little Fires Everywhere”, Dan “The Automator” Nakamura, who I personally recognize from the film “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”, and Dean “DC” Charles, who has worked on the hit show “The Boondocks”. Truly, I can’t wait to see what comes out of this panel. I’ve never been one to look too deeply into artists, but realizing they’ve worked on so much I recognize while writing this article has gotten me hyped. And the cool nicknames.

And on their final day, VIFF will have an educational panel of some of the best of the best to educate many on the production side around genres such as superhero movies, the impactful film “Daughter of a Lost Bird”, and all that is just the tip of the iceberg. Day 2 especially has plenty of content! Sadly, I don’t have all the space in the world to ramble about VIFF, but this will be an event you don’t want to miss if you’re looking to get into the music industry around films. You can check it all out here, and book your tickets as well! All this and much more, happening this weekend. Don’t miss it!
