Jim Cuddy, a Canadian singer-songwriter has recently released a new single labelled “Good News”, just halfway through September. It’s been a long couple of years, and his goal was to truly bring something ‘good’ to his fans, and to Canadians across the country. He was feeling the anger, and sadness of protests such as Black Lives Matter, and he put his efforts into contributing to providing what he does best, music. Take a listen.

For myself, this song nearly immediately brought some emotions up. It’s not been easy for a lot of people, and his voice brought positive reactions to many. After how much has happened over the times of the pandemic, the bad, the really bad, and the terrible all do truly aunt a lot of people. But Jim has been in music since he was in his early 20’s, and to see him still writing and providing everything his heart can give at age 65 is truly incredible. He says himself; “even though we’re going through difficult times, we all need some little ray of hope to move us forward day to day”. Which rings true for me at the very least. He’s been touring for about three decades, and I hope to see him get the chance to perform more in the future, as Jim has missed performing live himself. He was planning to perform at the PNE, but of course, that was cancelled. I can only imagine how difficult production could be for an artist during these times, but to be able to produce an emotional tearjerker like this single, it’s inspiring in itself. He aims to inspire others, but it inspires him right back to see how people are finding comfort in his songs. Thankfully for Jim, he has a live performance planned over in France in 2022, but I will certainly be waiting for not only his next release but also his next appearance here in BC.
