River District Developments

Developed from what was previously a sawmill, there’s a growing area in Vancouver called the River District that is starting to turn into a desirable place to live in the city. What was previously a sawmill, the River District has undergone a lot of growth since the beginning of development in 2010 with the River District Community Centre and Romer’s restaurant. It has since created a town centre that is home to multiple retailers.

Dean Johnson from Wesgroup Properties says that this neighbourhood has a lot to bring to the city.

“It’s important because I think it shifts the focus of the city of Vancouver to a corner of the city that some may say is a little bit… off the beat in path. A lot of the city of Vancouver’s focus is really turned towards other parts of the city and I think the opportunity for this community is to bring resources and bring amenities down into this part of the city.”

The River District is one of Vancouver’s more unknown neighbourhoods. It’s quiet but peaceful and there’s a lot of potential. The vision for the neighbourhood is to create an enjoyable and vibrant community.

The development of this neighbourhood will incorporate ways to use less water, energy, electricity, and materials. The vision of creating a complete community is coming to life.
