The Vancouver Giants Are Going National?

Inside the Vancouver Giants’ home arena at the Langley Events Centre, are teenage dreams and rich entertainment companies colliding.

North Burnaby’s own Michael Bublé and Maple Ridge’s Drew Scott have officially brought major junior hockey to global streaming. Premiering on Amazon Prime Video, the six-part sports docuseries titled Hometown Giants pulls back the curtain on the demanding, high-stakes lives that Western Hockey League players, staff, and families experience every single day.

The inspiration behind bringing camera crews into Langley stems directly from another Vancouver legend’s idea in 2022. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney created Welcome to Wrexham, a wildly popular docuseries following the pair as they invested into a low division English soccer club. As co-owners of the Giants, Bublé and Scott were deeply inspired by the concept and reached out directly to Reynolds for guidance on how to capture the raw, emotional human elements of sports ownership.

Rather than showcasing an unrealistic cleaned-up version of WHL life, the series dives deep into the many ups and downs of a gruelling season, displaying the players’ emotions in ways fans have rarely witnessed when it comes to junior hockey. Scott spoke directly about how vulnerable the show gets:

“It’s highlighting all the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations that these kids go through to get that one shot at the NHL. And I think pulling back the curtains to show unprecedented access to what that journey is like is crazy.”

Spanning six episodes, the series follows several compelling storylines throughout the Giants’ high-stress 2025-26 campaign.

The cameras capture key roster dynamics, including top prospect defender Ryan Lin navigating intense draft year pressures, veteran defenceman Torretto Marrelli fighting to secure his spot on the roster, and teenage rookies adjusting to the relentless lifestyle of major junior hockey. From billet families packing early morning lunches to front office tensions as trade deadlines approach, the series captures the intense behind the scenes reality of junior hockey.

For Bublé and Scott, owning the Giants was never about creating a television show. Both stars have been publicly invested in the franchise for years and have always spoken openly about their desire to bring a Memorial Cup banner back to Vancouver for the first time since 2007.

By offering fans an unfiltered look at the real lives behind junior hockey, Hometown Giants provides a rare opportunity to follow these young athletes along every step of their journey on and off the ice.
