Pop is a music genre that isn’t always everyone’s favourite. I mean I bet you don’t love every pop song too. People may think it’s overplayed or they think it’s a bit generic or there could be many reasons why they aren’t a fan. But sometimes there are pop artists who do something completely unique in the genre and change the way people look at it. Very few music artists can do that, but someone who can and has done that is Mission B.C’s own Carly Rae Jepsen.
I’m sure you’ve heard Call Me Maybe, I mean who hasn’t at this point? It’s a great pop song that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is pretty well made. That song is a great Carly Rae Jepsen song, but if you haven’t heard much of her other stuff then you really need to because she is an incredible music artist who is doing some really cool things.
Jepsen’s album E.mo.tion is regarded by some as one of the greatest pop albums of all time and there is a reason for that. This pop album has so many great songs and really changes the formulaic approach for a pop song. To explain what I mean, I highly recommend checking out the video below by Mic The Snare where he talks about exactly why Jepsen’s song Run Away With Me is one of the best pop songs ever made. If you haven’t heard this song, you have to because it’s so infectious.
Even with Jepsen’s latest album, she’s really experimenting and playing around with genres and sounds to make some unique pieces of art. An example of this would be her song Kollage which is a song that sounds nothing like she’s ever made before, but it sounds fantastic. It sounds like a song that Kali Uchis would make, but it’s Carly Rae Jepsen instead and I think she did a really good job with trying something new. She’s never really afraid to try something new and when she does, she’s able to execute it extremely well.
If you want to get more into Carly Rae Jepsen, then I’d recommend checking out her album E.mo.tion because that album is one of the best pop albums ever, and I’d recommend her newest album The Loveliest Time. That album isn’t her greatest in my opinion but it’s definitely a really good one you should listen to.
