A beginners guide to the Foo Fighters

Who are some of your favourite childhood bands? For me, there’s no way I can talk about my favourite bands growing up without talking about the Foo Fighters. You may hear the Foo Fighters playing sometimes on Evolution 107.9 and there’s a good reason for that because they are awesome!

The Foo Fighters have some classic songs that you may have some great memories associated with. So, that is why today I want to go over some of my favourite Foo Fighter songs and why I think you should give them a listen if you haven’t already. These songs will all be from one album which is The Colour And The Shape which is their most popular album and one that is pretty easy to start off with. This isn’t necessarily a list of the best Foo Fighters songs, but more so just songs that are super enjoyable to listen to and songs I think you would enjoy.

1. The first song I want to mention is My Hero. A song with nothing too crazy going on, but incredibly enjoyable to listen to. Dave Grohl has mentioned that this song is a tribute to people he looked up to, in particular, everyday people. This song has a very infectious chorus and a bit more meaning now. The drummer for Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins, tragically passed away last year and during his tribute concert, his son Shane played the drums for this song. It was a perfect tribute to a great drummer and this song has so much more meaning now because of its association with Taylor Hawkins.

2. The second song is a bit of a different one and that is Monkey Wrench. The song may sound a bit odd because of the title, but don’t be mistaken, this song is great! The song is about not wanting to be manipulated by someone or not wanting to be someone’s monkey wrench as the chorus suggests. A more up-tempo song and one you should definitely check out as it’s a fun listen!

3. The third song is one that I’m sure you know if you’ve ever heard the Foo Fighters before and that is Everlong. It’s the most classic Foo Fighter song and there is a reason for that. The song is about Dave Grohl’s experience going through a divorce and finding someone new and starting to get his life back together. It’s a classic song that I guarantee you will love as long you enjoy songs that are a little slower.

The Foo Fighters are an amazing band and if you haven’t you definitely have to check them out because they have something for everyone. Give the album The Colour And The Shape a listen first and then try out some of their other stuff.

Let me know what your favourite Foo Fighter song is or if you are now gonna start listening to them.
