If you’ve ever wanted to be someone who sees an artist before they become “big”, this is your chance. Personally, I’ve just started to get into his music, but from what I’ve seen online there seems to be consensus that he has what it takes to become mainstream.

Most people are just hearing about Redveil, an alternative hip-hop artist from Maryland, USA for the first time in recent months. His birth name is Marcus Morton and he was born in Washington, DC, and get this: he’s only 19 years old! He has a unique style of rap that combines production elements of jazz, alternative and abstract hip-hop while often using funk and soul samples.

The influence behind Redveil’s music stems from his parents playing funk and soul music when he was a child, leading to his sample choices and style of his vocal deliveries. If you’ve heard of artists like “The Internet”, “Tyler, the Creator” and Denzel Curry, you will have a good idea of what his music sounds like.

Redveil’s last album, which brought him into the “hip-hop spotlight” is titled “Learn 2 Swim”, and it was produced entirely by Redveil. Quite an impressive feat to accomplish at his age.

If you want a recent taste of Redveil’s music, you’re in luck, as he just released a brand new EP titled “Playing w/Fire” that gives listeners a good variety of what he brings to the music scene.

The show in Vancouver on April 30th will feature femdot. & D’mari Harris, two artists which complement Redveil’s style of music.

Personally, I have yet to see a show at the Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver, but after a quick search it seems like a good place to host a show for up-and-coming artists of all genres.

Tickets for Redveil’s show are still available and at a great price too: only $27 for general admission! If I’ve learned something about small shows recently, it’s that often you will have a more enjoyable and memorable experience than most “big” concerts you will go to.

Only time will tell if Redveil’s first headlining tour will lead to stardom, but his music and dedication to the craft seems like he’s on the right path. If you’re free on the night of April 30th, go check out what looks to be a great show at Fortune Sound Club in downtown Vancouver!
