Has the pandemic impacted movie culture?

The pandemic has impacted us in many ways. Obviously our physical and mental health, our contact with friends, and our social lives have all been impacted by the pandemic. One of the ways out social lives were impacted was when cinemas shut down. Going out to watch a new movie with friends and family on a Friday night was not possible for long time. Before the pandemic, going to the movies was something we took for granted. After a couple years without it, maybe some of us have even gotten used to life without going to the cinemas. The movie industry is making up for lost time by releasing some of the most highly anticipated films of all time. Some of the recent movies that had cinemas packed for weeks are the new Avatar movie and the Top Gun movie.

Going to the cinema to watch a movie has a different feeling compared to watching it at home. When a new movie is released and it’s got a buzz around it, the anticipation to watch it as soon as it releases is very real! People tend to get the fear of missing out on a great movie if others see it before them and potentially spoil the movie for them. Getting a bag of popcorn before the movie can be done at home, but it doesn’t taste or feel the same as the popcorn at movie theatres. It’s part of the experience to get a bag of popcorn, select the right seats, watch the trailers for upcoming movies before the movie starts.

Finding the time to go to the theatres with friends, family and maybe even a date is a part of culture that was taken away by the pandemic and now that it’s back, we should reconnect with our social lives and experience the cinemas like we used to.
