604 Records unleashing new tunes

The infamous 604 records, located here in the lower mainland, has released some new tunes that could sit a top of any of your playlists!

The wide variety of artists connected to 604 records gives you the opportunity to dive into many different genres and styles. From rock, to pop, to country, to punk, these songs can introduce you to different listening experiences.

  1. Wake Me Up On New Year’s Day – Emily & Mike

Wake me Up On New Year’s Day by Emily & Mike is a song the can relate to many people that want to erase the memory of an ex-lover or past relationship. A common trend for songs of this nature lean towards a slow ballad but Emily & Mikes take on it disguises the sad and frustrated message through an upbeat and rock n’ roll tempo. It gives a meaning that their New Year’s wish is to make the memory of an ex-lover disappear so “wake me up on New Years day” when it has come true. This type of song I typically gravitate away from because those standard sad songs dampen my mood but I couldn’t help tap my foot this tune, so all in all its a good listen.

2.   BEFORE THE ALBUM: a love letter to the moons of mars – Mauvey

Mauvey is Ghana born, UK and Vancouver raised, who’s grown his music style into melodic rap, R&B/soul, with alternative pop. He conveys a very important message and direction with his music which is Love. “My message will always be love” says Mauvey, and he tends to do it through creative lyricism, hypnotic beats, and moving melodies. On this record he shows his versatility with “WE HAD THE TIME OF OUR LIVES TOGETHER” then right after flips a switch with “I STILL GET BUTTERFLIES FOR YOU IN MY TUMMY (Ft. Dear Rouge)” He switches up from a loving ballad to displaying his talents towards rap and hip-hop. Displaying this type of talent is critical for artists because you tend to stand out from the rest. Mauvey does a great job displaying his message and seems like a genuinely kind and loving person which always makes the listening experience better. Great project all around.

3.   The Pressha – The Vidos

The Vidos here delivered a track that gets you bobbin your head and tapping your foot. What I took from this track is that as you get older the pressures of making executive decisions and taking control of your adulthood feels like it’s coming on fast and you don’t have time to adapt. “Now I’m grown up, got no point of view. But I better act like I do” sounds to me like things are going to fast for to have any sort of opinion but since everyone else has their self together I have to act like I do as well. It is pretty relatable because there are topics like politics that I just have no clue what they’re saying but when my friends talk about it I just smile and nod and pretend like I know what’s happening. This song was a good tune and the message resonated with me so I felt one with the artist. Great track overall.

Keep an eye for things to come from 604 Records with notable artists like Marianas Trench and Carly Rae Jepsen, and more signed to their label who formerly took care of Dallas Smith, Tommy Lee, and more legends.
