Alvvays

Alvvays was formed in 2011 by Molly Rankin (female vocals/guitar), Kerri MacLellan (harpsichord), Alec O’Hanley (guitar), Brian Murphy (bass guitar), Phil MacIsaac (drums). Molly has grown up in a musical family since she was a child. She is the daughter of John Morris Rankin, a member of The Rankin Family, a famous Canadian Celtic Folk Music family. She and Kerri were neighbors when they were children and played instruments together. Molly later met Alec at a concert, and they Several members actually live in areas not far from each other, and there are not many opportunities to play music together. Alvvays was officially formed after Alec produced the EP She for Molly in 2010.

In 2014, the first album of the same name was released, and it was praised as “indie-pop wonder” by “Rolling Stone” at that time. Alvvays’s songs are very lively and straightforward, the rhythm is brisk, and the lyrics are also very straightforward.

I like this album, after listening to the whole album, you will find that the songs are telling the changes of a relationship, from beginning to end, such as the first two or three songs “Adult Diversion”, “Archie, Marry Me” and “Ones” “Who Love You” is all about getting to know someone, doing anything for them, finding someone who truly loves you, expressing your true temperament, etc., but later the lyrics changed, such as “Next of Kin” , “If I had known you couldn’t swim we would never have gone in” means that both sides of a relationship have begun to have uncertainty, and they have begun to find that one party can’t keep up with the rhythm of the other.

In 2017, ALVVAYS performed two of the most famous international music festivals. ALVVAYS released the band’s second album “Antisocialites”. It can be seen that they deeply love the enlightenment of the British band in the 1980s. Among their songs, it is not difficult to find the melody around the beam The well-known Teenage Fanclub, as well as the influence of The Smiths, whose lyrics are pungent and mocking of reality, combine the essence of various genres. At this time, the newly joined drummer Sheridan Riley takes over from Philip, and the rhythm part is smoother and full of rhythm, which adds a little bit to Molly’s singing. cute.
