What does Meta can change the future?

First of all, Mark Zuckerberg had officially announced that the name of Facebook will be replaced by the name of Meta. The reason behind of creating this name is for providing a new aspect of using social media by using AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality). Both features will be combined to develop a new world for the users called Metaverse, it packs a huge futuristic perspective for everyone a new way to connect and have fun.  

Seems like many people still can not get used to the brand new name at this point and maybe they might get mistakenly called them Facebook because it has been with us for a while and they might get sometimes to get along with the name Meta.

But our biggest question is why Zuckerberg named it Meta? Changing the name for a company is difficult, but from the explanation of him, he said that it means “beyond” in Greek. It also indicates to the “Metaverse”, which is an online virtual oasis that he dreams about. 

However, the change does not apply on other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp. Those well-known social media will remain the same as nowadays, properly they will use them as a bait to lead users to the new world of Metaverse since the marketing and advertisement on there is bigger than we expected. 

The users can create their own avatar to put into the metaverse and there 3 separated rooms for the users can choose from.

  • Horizon World: this one could be an exploration room that can bring the real world to their Virtual Reality, it also allows them to join with their friends as well and it is the time people can enjoy the world together at their own home. 
  • Horizon Home: it is the metaverse home that users can be creative to build up their home however they want it, it is literally you are living a second home. 
  • Horizon Workroom: the room has to be like Zoom or Bongo meeting, but in Virtual Reality. I think this meeting is more versatile since it can be easier to be specific in the meeting room like writing on the board, feel like you are talking in person and it could turn any physics items to put in the room. I think it is a huge thumbs up for the school to open a class or any kind of presentation on their room. 

That is such a life-changing movement, although, the project is still working on progress and plans to be publish in 2030. Meta is just a commitment of a challenge ahead for Zuckerberg since he realizes that Facebook is getting boring and he feels attacked from the other social media platforms like Tiktok, Youtube, etc. 

Thinking about the growth for future, Zuckerberg has the reason to stand out and be different from the others. Running Instagramd and Facebook is no longer his mission anymore, creating a virtual world is the next goals for him, which transforms into the human experience. Additionally, it could give him the ability to generate more excitements and curiosity for the users. 

On the other hand, Facebook is currently has so many strikes to its reputation about keeping privacy of the users following of the overuse tactics to track some internal informations in every users. Zuckerberg has defined the reports as a “coordinated effort to selectively use leaked documents to paint a false picture of our company”.

You read that right, Facebook is silently tracking you anytime and anywhere in order to help them understand more about the users, so they can throw some appropriate advertisements to them and Facebook can grab more effective attentions to them. 

For instance, one day you saw your friends had a really nice sneakers, clothes or bracelets, etc and you might definitely come to them to make some compliments and ask where did they get it. That point, Facebook heard that you are interested in those items and they will try to look for the right advertisement to you, but how did Facebook hear about that? It is from your phone! The one that you always carry with you anytime, anywhere! Facebook has been laying low about running the apps at background to listen to you and that’s why it takes a lot of battery from your device! 

That’s why the users have spoken about the insecurity of using with Facebook, since  Facebook automatically track them without a specific permission. Besides, it also showed some harmful to teenage mental health following the lack of right information or a specific kind of advertisement. 


I am also indeed with the same issue, since most of them are having it nowadays and i also have some false advertisement that it is not necessarily to watch them and inappropriate somehow. Let me give you a thought exercise, a little girl is very lovable person, she always tell her dad that she love him so much, the word “love” has been recorded and send to Facebook’s head, then Facebook will bring some advertisements relate to that word and one day her daddy found out that his daughter’s facebook has full of advertisement about sexual stuffs and dating apps.

 That’s the reason why the users have to get their hating speech about it and more people are not comfortable using it gradually. 

Fun facts, they earn a lot of profit for selling advertisement on Facebook and Instagram since those platforms have the most users comparing to others, which means the effect of advertisement is more outstanding to help other small businesses growing. 

Zuckerberg has a full justification to change the name not only for announcing about the new virtual reality world of Meta, it is also a form of easing the users out, so they could have some faith in them again. 

Overall, it is all make sense for him and bring another solution for the whole world, some experts said it could be a backfire on him since the guilty is still there, but he keep building up for his future plan, seems like he is escaping more than fixing the problem, but we shall see if people still stick with him furthermore.
