Expect the unexpected: Apple’s strategy

The making of Apple’s logo

Talking about technology, most of people would think about Apple first, then later on they would think about Samsung, LG, Sony, etc. It’s a common sense about psychology that the word “Apple” will instantly pop up in their mind since it was one of the first word when they learn in English language and it is literally one of favourite fruits for everyone.

But why Steve Jobs did not choose any names beside Apple? It could be Orange, Pear or even Durian!?

Obviously, Steve Jobs loves eating apple, it was one of his fruitarian diets and fun fact that he could not come up with any better names. So, essentially, Apple was named, designed by him and he never felt regretted about it.

However, before he replaced the logo into an Apple with a bite taken out of it, it was a logo represent Isaac Newton sitting under the apple tree, who identified gravity after an Apple fell on his head. Additionally, he also wanted to show respect to Newton that he was the one who created a movement for the world about Physics, so that Steve could also be the next one of Newton to take the world by storm as well.

“I remember I was driving Steve Jobs back from the airport along Highway 85. Steve was coming back from a visit to Oregon to a place he called an “apple orchard.” It was actually some kind of commune. Steve suggested a name – Apple Computer.” According to Steve Wozniak.

And the simple name of Apple becomes one of the biggest tech company in the world and achieves a whopping number of loyalty customers.

Apple has been making their products flawlessly about their smartphone, tablet, laptop, PC and accessories, even though, there are many competitors out there also invent some unique ideas on a new design, new features, develops higher performance on their new chipset, one-of-a-kind products, etc.

Apple still let others sniff up a winning air from it and there are some reasons to clarify those brilliant ideas behind of it:

  • Synchronic

There are small amounts that other competitors focus on the synchronism for their products to associate with other devices, instead, they keep making more and more new products come up with some wow factors without knowing the important of customers’ usage.

Imagine when you upgrade to a new iPhone 13, you have worried about spending the time uploading your data from your old phone to the new one and it might take a lot of time doing that. Luckily, Apple has some exclusive features to help customers transfer data instantly and it also has iCloud to store data from there without a support of hard drive memory, also they have Airdrop to let other Apple products transfer data together in a second as well.

On the other hand, when the customer uses a Macbook and they can also use iPad to work as a second display called “Sidecar”. Additionally, all the accessories like Airpods, Homepod, Airtag, etc can be connected rapidly without having to reach for setting a turn on the bluetooth.

How convenience it is!

Then again, the strategy generates customers to buy different products from Apple so they can be obsessed with it, since it helps the workflow and reliable for them.

  • Quality > Quantity

Just like how Samsung made to their phone became foldable, hide their front camera under the display, along with the fingerprint password is also located under it in order to create a fuller display for a distinctive experience and appearance. Of course, the price has to be match with it as well, so it is kind of a “money can buy”.

The outstanding strategy here is they think different and know how to play in customers’ curiosity, so i can tell that they really want to try to sell as much as possible for a short term. That means they just focus on quantity not quality, every year they always change to a new design and create a momentum that stands out to others.

For instance, the new foldable phone from Samsung, Xiaomi, etc they all mostly from plastic, which can easily be scratched, dented and even an internal damage.

But why they use plastic?

In order to be able to make the screen foldable, plastic is a much more flexible material than glass and they invented the very first foldable phone ever, but the durability might be considered again since it lacks of the toughness comparing with glass. Well it is a new revolution of smartphone anyway!

Let’s throw back to Apple, they know what the customers actually need and works the best for them, so they just want to upgrade what already had on the older models like replacing into a tougher glass for the iPhone 13, better battery life, more powerful performance on the A15 bionic chip, huge improvements on camera quality, smoother 120hz refresh rate displace and yes, a smaller notch does exist. Not really…

Anyway, Apple is trying to go deeper for the quality not just brainstorming for a complete new product, they all are just human-made, the more friendly-user it is, the more customers be loyal to it i would say.

  • Becoming more friendly-environment

Not only Apple respects to their customers, they also have a high regard for the planet as well, they know the circumstance of being one of the biggest tech firms, so it might be using a large number of environment materials to make their products.

Nowadays, the climate change has become worse, animals are gradually loosing their homes and one day, we could lose our home as well.

Are we really trying to eliminate each other so we can live a better life?

Well, Apple is raising its awareness to support and helps the planet healthier by recycling all their products and in 2030, their products would be a carbon-neutral using only natural materials like sunlights, water and winds!

In their latest products, like iPhone 13’s lineup, it does not have a plastic wrap anymore, it removes charging brick and encourages customers to trade-in their old product to recycle.

That’s the reason why Apple is always being top-notch to other brands, even though how expensive their products are, like a $20 piece of cloth that they just secretly published to the website, customers still be loyal and satisfied what they invest into them since Apple cares about customers and do what they need to be done.
