Project manager, Fernando Imola provides us with some of the benefits for this project.

Fernando Imola explains the benefits:

“well sidewalks are an important part of the transportation network, providing critical services for vulnerable road users, including wheelchair users, family with strollers, and seniors as well. Sidewalks also support a healthy community and contribute to reduce of green house gas emissions.”

There is always a challenge when it comes to city projects like these though.

Fernando Imola explains the challenges:

“The challenges are, that a lot of residents of Burnaby don’t see that, they have the front part on their property, that they use, and they just don’t feel the need for a sidewalk in the front of there houses, so we have to sell the ideas to the residents.”

Although, there are some facing challenges with this project, the City of Burnaby is still looking to make it the most successful as possible as well too.
