CPABC: CPA Next – Accounting X Technology (Wed Jan 28)

CPA Next: Accounting X Technology networking event will be held on Wednesday, Jan 28, 2026. This is a complimentary in-person networking event organized by Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) and Vancouver Tech Journal.

Purpose of the Event

CPAs aren’t coding the next big app — they’re engineering the financial strategies that power tech innovation.

CPA Next: Accounting X Technology is designed to inspire prospective CPAs, career changers, students, and early‑career professionals by showcasing how the CPA designation intersects with technology.

Canada Life + Lime Connect DevOps & Technology Internship & Scholarship Award

As you may know, the Canada Life + Lime Connect DevOps & Technology Internship & Scholarship Award application is now open!

Canada Life is offering a Summer 2026 Internship in Winnipeg MB, Toronto ON, or London ON, plus a $5,000 CAD scholarship for the 2026–2027 academic year,  for undergraduate students with disabilities who are pursuing a Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree/certification/or equivalent education.

Cyber Hackathon

Welcome, cybersecurity enthusiasts and creative problem-solvers!

Prepare to outwit and outmaneuver the competition in a battle of strategy. Create a team of up to four people, or if you’re feeling ambitious, try to crack the code solo.

The hackathon is designed with flags ranging from basic to advanced levels, ensuring challenges for both beginners and those ready to tackle more advanced levels. You’ll face off against your peers in challenges that span application security, infrastructure protection, reverse engineering, steganography, the art of Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), and the enigmatic world of cryptography. Focused on Operational Technology (OT), we’ve crafted an immersive setup that mirrors the intricate landscape of IT and OT components. This includes Wi-Fi access points, servers, HMI (Human Machine Interface), PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), and more.

In this immersive environment, your skills will be put to the test as you navigate the challenges and vulnerabilities that arise when the digital and physical worlds converge.

The hackathon will conclude with an award ceremony to celebrate the achievements of the participants. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team of this hackathon, along with the bragging rights of being the 2025 Cyber Hackathon champions.

EA Tech Night – October 9th

Electronic Arts (EA) will be hosting an EA Tech Night – Meet, Learn, Connect on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at our EAV campus located in Burnaby.

This event will bring together 100+ top students from across the Lower Mainland for an inside look at EA. Students will connect with our hiring managers, intern alumni, and recruiters, while gaining practical insights into careers in technology.

Event Highlights:

  • Hear from EA intern alumni and local hiring managers during a panel + Q&A
  • Network 1:1 with recruiters and business leaders across front end, back end, full stack, AI/ML, data science, and product
  • Learn about our internship program, resume building, and EA’s culture

Ocean Hackathon – October 17-19, 2025

We invite all ocean lovers, technology enthusiasts, and innovators to join Ocean Hackathon®2025, a 48-hour ocean data marathon that will take place October 17 -19, 2025, in Victoria, BC.

Using real data related to the ocean and coastal environments, teams will develop creative solutions and prototypes, aimed at the preservation and smart use of marine resources.

Teams from around the world participate in the event.

SoCAS Dean’s office will cover the ferry costs of up to 6 individuals who would join interdisciplinary teams for this challenge.

ISACA Vancouver OneInTech Scholarship – Apply by May 6, 2025

Scholarship details:

  • Open to students pursuing a degree in Information Systems, IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT Audit, Compliance, or Governance, who thrive on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Scholarship amount: CAD 2,000 for each recipient.
    • ISACA Career-building bundle included, featuring:

    • ISACA student membership
    • A course from the ITCA or CET certification
    • Conference registration
    • ISACA’s mentorship program
