“What is worthwhile, does not come easy. Engineering is a fascinating field, but there will also be many challenges along the way. This field will teach students how to analyze and solve different types of problems from drawings to calculations. Everyone will have different things he/she will find the most rewarding about this program. Choose engineering, and give yourself a chance to find out what is most rewarding for you.”

“Engineering has always been one of my interests since high school because of my fondness for math and physics. Although studying engineering is difficult, it helped me change the way I perceive my surroundings and to understand how things work or why it was designed a certain way. To deal with stress while studying engineering, I either do long walks along the beach/lake with my family and friends, or watch funny movies/dramas.”

“I am an aspiring student hoping to one day become a project manager. After high school, I started in the Bachelor of Science program at McGill. However, after meeting students and talking to engineers, I changed course midway and came to BCIT for Civil Engineering. The thing I love most and what drew me to engineering was the prospect of watching drawings come to life through problem solving and creative solutions. Taking many courses at a time can be difficult but sometimes a group effort of classmates to put things together and figure out problems can take you a long way. Aside from studying I enjoy outdoor activities and adventure.”

“I enjoy learning about how things work and why our built environment looks the way it does. Studying civil engineering fulfills these curiosities. In engineering school, you often come across concepts that may seem incomprehensible and daunting at first. There is nothing more rewarding than looking back and realizing how these ideas can become second nature through practice and study. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and playing tennis.”

“This might be the typical answer for school tips but do not be afraid to ask questions to your teachers, your classmates or to people working in your industry when you are having trouble. And of course, have fun along the way. Do not over stress yourself because as along as you are enjoying what you are studying, it is truly rewarding to even have the opportunity to be studying engineering. My experience studying at BCIT is actually amazing. I cannot imagine studying anywhere else as cheesy as that sounds. You make friends here and the teachers actually know your name.”
