Matthew Woodruff appointed Associate Dean of the Trades and Technology Complex

BCIT School of Construction and the Environment (SOCE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Woodruff as the new Associate Dean, Trades and Technology Complex. In this role, Matthew will act as a strategic advisor to the School community, and will be responsible for championing the academic needs of the Trades and Technology Complex as well as the new anchor building, the Concert Properties Centre for Trades and Technology. He will also have an overall responsibility for championing the needs of students, faculty, and staff who will use the learning spaces. “The opportunity to support our students and faculty, and partner with Campus Planning and Facilities in the delivery of this project is something I just couldn’t pass up, ” says Matthew.

Matthew is a Registered Architect and brings  more than 25 years of  experience in the design, coordination, and facilitation of sustainable community infrastructure projects. He is an active leader in the local construction industry specifically on complex high-performance projects.

Prior to becoming Associate Dean, Matthew has been a long-standing part-time faculty member in SOCE where his teaching focused on bringing the issues of sustainability, equity, and inclusion into the classroom. In addition to his work for BCIT, Matthew is also as a Principal at Local Practice Architecture + Design Ltd. —a mid-sized firm in Vancouver where he provides leadership for projects in the public realm that require the harmonization of fiscal responsibility, design excellence, and deep sustainability. An expert in high-performance building and heavy timber construction, his wide range of projects includes spaces for learning, working, and living throughout the Salish Sea bioregion.

Matthew has also served as Project Architect at Bing Thom Architects on a variety of large public projects across North America, many of which were distinguished by the innovative use of wood, including Simon Fraser University in Surrey, BC and the Tarrant County College expansion in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

Congratulations Matthew!
