BCIT Interior Design students place first and third in the 2022 IDEC Student Competition

At the 2022 Interior Design Education Council (IDEC) Student Design Competition, BCIT’s Interior Design student team comprised of David Kim (3rd year), Carley Steeves (2nd year), and Carlos Valdez (3rd year) placed first in the Pacific West Region and placed third in North America for their project Kinship—a live-work space that evokes beauty though feelings of Hozho; the paramount living principle of Navajo peoples. In 2021, David Kim and his team also placed first for their project Swell Veteran Living Community.

BCIT’s Interior Design students participate in this competition each year and have placed every year since 2014 – either regionally or nationally. The students are put into groups of three, and they work together over three weeks in the fall. At the IDEC student competition, projects are first juried at a regional level, and then finalists are juried at a North American Level.

The BCIT Interior Design faculty are very proud of their students’ accomplishments. Congratulations to these amazing students!
