BCIT launches new Strategic Plan: Relevance, Reach, Renewal

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has launched its new three-year strategic plan with a refreshed vision, mission, strategic commitments and an inaugural set of values for the Institute.

The final plan was two years in the making and was developed after extensive consultation with more than 9,000 key stakeholders ranging from current students and employees, to alumni, employers, and industry leaders.

“We see the Strategic Plan as a bridge to our future—a future in which we are achieving our full potential,” said Kathy Kinloch, President of BCIT. “Together we can deliver upon our Vision of empowering people, shaping BC, and inspiring global progress.”

The Institute’s plan features a bold mission of partnering learners and industry for success through workforce development. It is grounded in BCIT’s provincial mandate and seeks to leverage its strengths and points of differentiation in applied education and integration with industry.

“We are witnessing seismic shifts in the workplace, with significant economic and social impact,” said Kinloch. “Much of what we do in the next three years will be about creating the human, technical, and physical capacity to equip BCIT for ongoing success.”

BCIT will be bringing the plan to life by focusing its efforts on three strategic commitments over the coming years. The Institute is committed to being a people-first organization, to delivering future-proof applied education, and to building globally relevant connections.

Rounding out the plan is an emphasis on aligning the Institute’s values to five key attributes: achieve excellence, embrace innovation, champion diversity and inclusion, pursue collaboration, and engage with respect.

The plan was rolled out to the community by Kinloch at an internal event on Thursday, April 25. A strategic implementation team has been formed to operationalize the plan and to support organizational accountability.
