MEDIA RELEASE
[Burnaby, BC] For the ninth consecutive year, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has been recognized by Canada’s Top 100 Employers as one of British Columbia’s Top 100 Employers for 2019.
As one of BC’s largest post-secondary institutions with over 50,000 students enrolled annually and 2,400 outstanding staff and faculty across five campuses, BCIT primes employees for success in the workplace through collaborative learning opportunities and extensive on and off campus resources.
“It’s about the opportunity to be part of a culture where everybody is focused on making sure our students and colleagues are more than prepared for the future ahead of them,” says Ana Lopez, Vice President, Human Resources and People Development. “So many of our employees just love what they do and it’s that focus on building and being a great community and wanting to remain a part of it which distinguishes us as an institute.”
Selection criteria for this annual competition include physical workplace, work atmosphere and social health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement.
The official announcement appeared in a special magazine in today’s Vancouver Sun, featuring an interview with Associate Dean for the BCIT School of Energy, Kacem Habiballah.
“BCIT gives me an opportunity to make an impact on people’s lives,” says Kacem. “The students may have a student number attached to them, but I see a human being. That could be your son or daughter looking for guidance and in this job, you’re getting paid to do that – for me, that’s number one.”
The BC’s Top Employers judging panel recognized BCIT for its on-campus childcare and recreation facilities, full tuition subsidies, lifelong learning supports, and a generous benefits package.
