BCIT Students show their skills at Skills Canada BC 2018

BCIT participated in the Skills Canada provincial competition 2018 which provides students the opportunity to experience careers in the skilled trades and applied technologies. During the competition aspect of the event, BCIT students from the School of Energy, School of Construction and the Environment, and School of Transportation competed and won over 20 top prizes in 8 different categories.

The competition was fierce this year with more than 600 high school and post-secondary student competing in 58 competition areas ranging from aerospace, automotive, plumbing, cabinetmaking, welding, and robotics. In 5 of the categories, BCIT students took home the gold, silver, and bronze medals! High school students who are currently enrolled in a Dual Credit program with BCIT were also among those who placed top 3.

In the audience were industry leaders, technical experts, employers, labour organizations and government officials watching the students compete. The event was a great opportunity for students to network and apply their skills.
