The delegates from the Union of BC Municipalities Convention (UBCM) learned about electric vehicles, how to charge them, and what local governments in the region are doing to prepare for an increase in electric vehicle ownership. Hosted by Metro Vancouver, BCIT, the Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association, and the City of Vancouver, delegates had an opportunity to take a spin in a new electric vehicle and tour the unique-in-North-America BCIT OASIS microgrid electric vehicle charging station.

The charging station currently also doubles as a sophisticated energy-management station with:

  • a 500-kWh Li-ion Battery Energy Storage System
  • a 250-kW solar photovoltaic system
  • two DC Fast Charge and six Level 2 charging stations for electric vehicles
