Investigators Position in Toronto, Ontario

The Office of the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth seeks an experienced and motivated Investigator for its new Investigations unit. The Investigator will plan, develop, lead, and manage file reviews, complex investigations and special reviews involving sensitive and high profile cases. The Investigators will also identify service gaps and key areas where improvement to services and programs for children and youth is required, and provide recommendations. This position will report to the Supervisor of Investigations, or another member of management depending on assignment.

Qualifications
• Extensive experience with specialized subject knowledge or experience in investigations such as pediatric health services, children’s mental health services or child development services;
• Knowledge of Ontario’s child welfare system;
• Extensive knowledge of the complexities of child protection policies and procedures and child protection systems in Ontario;
• Demonstrated experience in developing and executing investigations plan;
• Strong investigative skills: observation, deduction, tact, and intuition;
• Strong social skills and excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Extensive experience with interviewing and engaging others;
• Strong problem solving and decision making skills;
• Ability to work with diverse team members while also working independently;
• Committed to the application of administrative fairness;
• Well-developed analytical and reasoning skills;
• Demonstrated knowledge of social policy issues and the challenges in delivering public services in Ontario.

Police background check including a vulnerable person sector screening is required.

The 6th Annual Don Rix Distinguished Keynote Address

Genome BC is pleased to present Dr. Bruce Budowle as the Don Rix Distinguished Keynote speaker on Tuesday, October 20th at the Vancouver Convention Centre.  Dr. Budowle is a renowned forensic expert , who spent 40 years as a senior scientist for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Washington, D.C.  He was principal advisor in efforts to identify victims from the Wold Trade Center attack in 2001.

Canadian Identification Society (CIS) Conference is being held at the Coast Plaza Hotel in Vancouver from October 5th to 8th.

This is a great way for students in the program to network with professionals in the forensic science field.

CSE Employer Info Session

Job Description

If so, consider this exciting leadership role where you will contribute as part of the senior medical management team at the Office of the Chief Coroner, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services!

We are seeking your medical background and sound management skills to play an important role in the implementation of the recently developed strategic plan that will frame the future direction of our high quality death investigation system in Ontario.

 

Overview

You will:

  • lead and manage the development, oversight and implementation of operational policies, procedures, standards and protocols for the conduct of death investigations and research across the Province
  • provide broad-based medical expertise to lead and/or inform the development, evaluation and changes to Best Practice Guidelines and other directives, standards and processes utilized
  • advise medical management colleagues in the planning, priority setting, hiring and quality control of work performed by Investigating Coroners
  • provide direction, training and advice to Investigating Coroners, senior medical management and staff on OCC Code of Ethics, investigation protocols, Best Practice Guidelines for the conduct of investigations into non-natural deaths and certain natural deaths
  • manage quality control of investigations conducted by Investigating Coroners
  • act as an advisory role for the Chief Coroner and Deputy Chief/s and apply best practices from the healthcare field to develop consistent standards in reporting, investigating and certifying deaths by Investigating Coroners as well as defining, developing and overseeing the implementation and evaluation of innovative approaches to service delivery

Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • you have current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and a BSc in Nursing from an accredited university to provide professional nursing expertise as a member of the death investigation system’s senior medical management team

Knowledge:

You have:

  • knowledge and expertise in pathophysiology and toxicology with understanding of medical standards and protocols in the investigation of deaths
  • knowledge and understanding of theCoroners Act,Anatomy Act, the mandate of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, death investigation protocols and medical practices and OCC Code of Ethics
  • skills in guidelines and standards development to manage the development of operational policies, procedures, standards and protocols for the conduct of death investigations across the Province
  • knowledge of research techniques and understanding of research tools (e.g. evidence development processes and strategies), methods and techniques to research and assess issues and trends in the community
  • knowledge of performance management techniques and methods to manage quality control of investigations and introduce innovative approaches to service delivery

Management Skills:

  • you have demonstrated management skills to work with senior management colleagues and coordinate administrative and project support provided to senior executives and managers across the province

Communication, Presentation and Stakeholder Management Skills:

  • you can prepare and present training on detailed standards, protocols and best practice documents including briefing papers
  • you have stakeholder management to initiate and cultivate collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including medical and non-medical colleagues throughout the Division, Ministry, justice sector, OPS and external stakeholders

Computer Skills

  • you have demonstrated computer skills to access the Internet as a research tool and to prepare own materials using various software programs

Crime Analyst Position with the Surrey RCMP

Job Status: Full Time Regular

Overview: The Crime Analyst 1 position specializes in research work involving the application of complex research techniques to support criminal investigative activities, operational programs and crime reduction strategies.

Scope: The successful candidate will provide specialized work involving the application of research techniques to support moderately complex criminal investigation activities, operational programs and crime reduction strategies. The incumbent provides intelligence information and some crime analysis services to management.

The Crime Analyst 1 will also prepare written documentation including but not limited to profile packaging, suspects lists, maps and narrative and statistical reports on crime trends and related matters. In addition, the successful candidate will establish and maintain working relationships with members, staff and external agencies.

Requirements: Qualified applicants must have completion of a university degree in a related discipline including coursework in applied research and statistics. Plus two years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

You must be able to obtain and maintain the relevant level of security clearance throughout employment with the Surrey RCMP.
