North Van Go To’s For Live Music

As someone who was born and raised in North Vancouver, I find the music scene within the community can be a bit dead at times, but don’t get me wrong North Van is beautiful, from the forests, beaches, to the mountains, it really has it all…. Expect a bit of a lively music scene. But as a local, I’m here to let you in on a couple of my favourite spots if I’m looking to catch some live music and enjoy an ice cold beer. So, here is my ranking of the top spots in the North Van area:

North Vancouver port

  1. The CornerStone! Located in Pemberton Heights they keep the live music coming every Thursday night! You can expect everything from blues to alt rock and paired with some drinks and yummy dishes you can’t go wrong.
  2. Shaketown Brewery! Life can’t get quite as good as having a cold pint over great conversation with a great musical ambience and Shaketown delivers just this! On Friday’s and Saturday’s you can usually expect a great DJ playing everything from rock hits, to pop hits, and even some awesome throwbacks. During the week you can expect some guitar and chiller vibes.
  3. The Royal Canadian Legion! Located in Lower Lonsdale, I always appreciate the effort to get some younger local bands in there and getting to see what the younger generations have to offer!
  4. Eagles Club: Also located in Lower Lonsdale, you can expect a little bit of everything from hearing some indie music to some classic covers, it’s always a good time. Recently I was down there with a couple coworkers watching our friend rip up the saxophone and it was amazing! The room is also great, with affordable drinks and a pool table one of my go to’s for a night in North Vancouver.
  5. Wildeye Brewing: Another great brewery spot for live music. One thing I love about coming here is that the musicians take song requests! No better when you’re craving hearing a song and you get to hear it live!
  6. The Queens Cross: Good old Queens Cross offers live music every weekend and it’s always the best, with the crowd being mostly regulars it’s nice to come into a welcoming space with great tunes and good eats.

Lonsdale Quay Scene (2)

Overall, nothing beats the community feel of live music in North Vancouver. It’s a pretty small music scene but it is still one that matters and is built on the community, so if your ever in the area go on and check one of these spots out!

Brews at the zoo are the move!

As a kid, did you ever go to the petting zoo and see and feel all sorts of animals? Well, I did a couple times on some school field trips, and I had an absolute blast. From hearing the roosters do their call, to seeing a peacock spread its beautifully coloured feathers. It’s just so visually appealing, you know? You get to a real taste of all the senses, you see the animals and get to feel them, you hear them make their noises while smelling some unusual scents, obviously we leave the taste sense at home as you don’t taste at petting zoo, except one time I did milk a cow and the workers came back with chocolate milk, so it’s an all around experience.

But what if I told you the zoo isn’t just for field trips for the kids, but also an 19+ after party for the adults. Can you believe the Greater Vancouver Zoo is offering a one day spectacle called Brew At The Zoo, I mean how fun does that sound. You get to relax as you sip your ice cold beer, while seeing all types of animals, now that sounds pretty trippy, but you can count me in!

When? Saturday, September 21st from 5-8pm. Where? The Greater Vancouver Zoo. How much will it cost me? Tickets are $60-68 + fees, but you can save money if you have a membership!

Not only will you be able to hit up all the different types of brewers and see the animals, but there will be all sorts of fun activities, whether you’re there with your partner, maybe you’re there with family and friends, or hey you might be a solo attendee, either way it’s fun for all. Not only will you be hearing the squawks and growls of the animals, but you’ll be hearing live music presented by Paul Donnelly. We all know that when the beers start flowing, your stomach starts growling, so there will be plenty of food trucks and the on-site Oasis kitchen to satisfy your cravings.

You don’t want to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity, I know I won’t. Bring your friends and have some fun casual drinking, sharing some laughs, and experience this incomparable event. Never did I ever think I could have a brew at the zoo, but now I know that’s the move for Saturday!
