Why Canada Needs Another Formula One Race

Why F1 Needs another race in Canada

Formula one has skyrocketed in popularity these past few years thanks to the hit Netflix series drive to survive.

A large part of that growing audience has been Canadian and United States viewers.

And while Canada and the United States started this popularity spike both with one race in each country, the U.S now has 3 races as of 2023 and Canada stays at 1.

Why? Money.

The United States is doing a better job at getting Formula one races because the states are putting more funding behind it. They’re able to realize that F1 can turn a huge profit for them. Why are Canadian provinces not funding more F1 races though?

I can’t answer that question.

Formula one is everywhere you look in Canada. Gas stations have photos of Charles Leclerc, the up and coming Ferrari driver as a sponsor. H&M Carry’s mass amounts of inventory. Some Costcos even sell merchandise! You can’t tell me that having a F1 race in Vancouver wouldn’t be profitable!

Yet F1 doesn’t seem to be a priority for Canada.

Hopefully one day F1 will add another race in Canada, but for right now, us Canadians are going to have to keep making the trip out to Montreal.

Why Sami Zayn Should Win The Royal Rumble!

Many wrestling fans favourite time of the year is upon us! The Royal Rumble match has produced epic spots and great moments for years, with 30 members of the roster fighting for a chance to face the champion at Wrestle Mania.

Roman Reigns championship run has been a historic one, holding on to the universal championship title for 868 days, and claiming the WWE championship as well. Roman holds both titles and seems unstoppable.

Enter Sami Zayn.

Sami Zayn has soared in popularity since joining Roman Reigns faction the bloodline. The fans love his storyline, and WWE seems to slowly be building tension between Roman and Sami over the past few months.

If WWE were to book Sami to win, Sami would have no choice at what champion he wants to face at Wrestle Mania since Roman holds both.

I would want WWE to play the story that Sami really went out there in the rumble to defend Roman Reigns titles, and that he will just let Roman pin him at Wrestle Mania.

Then Roman could turn on Sami, adding tension to their match, and the Canadian brothers Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens could team up to defeat the bloodline, ending Roman Reigns streak at the biggest WWE pay per view of the year.

I really see no better time and person to end Roman Reigns historic streak then Sami Zayn at Wrestle Mania. Lets face it, Roman isn’t going to lose the titles on a Monday Night Raw against Elias Peterson.

Sam Hubbard Touchdown!

Sam Hubbard makes a clutch touchdown to give the Bengals the lead in a tight game.

Going into the 4th quarter the score was tied between the Bengals and Ravens 17-17. With both teams wanting to win the AFC division neither team was looking to give an inch heading into the final quarter.

The first quarter saw the Bengals score just 3 points. The Ravens  mounted a comeback scoring 10 points in the second, with the Bengals scoring 6. The third was very closely contested with the Bengals scoring 8 to the Ravens 7.

Then on a scramble very close to the Bengals end in the 4th, Sam Hubbard was able to pick up the ball, and run 98 yards to score the touchdown!

This play could very well be what sends the Bengals further into their playoff quest. While the game is still going it looks like the deal is sealed for the Bengals, all thanks to one amazing play!

We will see how this game plays out, but with just one minute of play left, the Bengals seem to have secured the victory.

Jon Jones Returns!

Jon Jones is set to make his return to the octagon after 4 years.

Jon Jones is easily one of the greatest fighters to ever enter the octagon. He’s undefeated in the octagon with 26 wins, and beaten some of the best fighters of all time.

But his in octagon feats have been riddled with outside the octagon issues. He’s been involved with multiple D.U.I’s, failed drug tests, and domestic abuse charges.

These issues and others have kept Jones out of the octagon for a long time along with some other personal issues.

But after all this time, Jon Jones has announced that he will be making his comeback against top contender Ciryl Gane.

Many fans are questioning if Jones will be able to get back to his old ways after years on the shelf. Gane is a serious contender and has been very active these past few years, not just in the UFC but in kickboxing as well.

Maybe if Jon Jones had a solid last performance things would be different.

In Jones last fight before leaving the UFC for four years, he fought up and coming contender Dominick Reyes. He won the fight but it was very close contended with many people thinking Reyes won.

Sure, at the time Reyes was a top prospect so it’s fair that Jones had a close fight with him. But since then Reyes has been on a four fight losing streak.

So was this “top prospect” Jones had a great fight with even that good? No ones to sure anymore.

Only time will tell if Jon Jones will be able to get back to his winning ways and reclaim UFC gold.

Win or lose though, every fight fan will be tuning in for the return of Jon “Bones” Jones on March 4th.

Canucks Are Finally On The Other Side Of A Comeback

The Canucks are finally on the winning side of a comeback!

After going down by 2 points early in this afternoons game against the Hurricanes, it seemed that the Canucks were going to have another bad day at the office.

But then to every fans surprise the Canucks mounted an incredible comeback starting with a goal from Ethan Bear, former Hurricane player.

We then saw J.T Miller shoot the puck right into the post, and follow up with the rebound to tie the game 2-2.

When the Hurricanes scored another goal Canucks fans must have been worried. But with just 30 seconds left in the 3rd period, Brock Boeser banked it in to tie the game up and force overtime.

And who else but Elias Peterson to score the final goal to win the game.

This was a needed win for the Canucks and fans.

With the team mourning the loss of former Canuck Gino Odjick mid game, it must have been difficult for the players and coaching staff to go preform. The Canucks pulled it together though, and mounting a awesome comeback after a 4 game losing streak is great for the teams confidence, and fans morale.

The Canucks face the Lightning Wednesday night.

Canucks Fan Favourite Gino Odjick Passes Away

The world will be sad to hear that Canucks legend Gino Odjick has passed away. His sister broke the news earlier today on facebook.

This comes after a long battle with a heart condition he developed in 2014 called amyloidosis, a rare condition that produces protein deposits in the heart. The initial bout nearly killed him But Odjick survived with the help of some first-class medical care. He had two further bouts with the disease, most recently last year, which required him to go through chemotherapy.

He developed an infection in his leg, which required bandages as part of his treatment. He was at the doctor getting those bandages changed, when the amyloidosis struck again.

Thankfully there were plenty of nurses on scene to try and help save him, but there was nothing they could do.

The Canucks released a post just a few short moments ago.

Gino was a enforcer for the Canucks from 1990-1998 and played 8 total seasons with the team.

Nathan Rourke Signs With NFL Team

B.C Lions star quarterback Nathan Rourke announced he has signed with NFL team the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Its been no secret that Nathan was looking to sign with a NFL team this off season as hes tried out for ten teams in the past month or so. Those teams included the Cincinnati Bengals, L.A. Chargers, Las Vegas, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Arizona Cardinals.

Rourke finally made his decision public, earlier today on his instagram.

“Ultimately my decision came down to my commitment to the pursuit of the dream I first had as a youngster watching Brett Favre win Super Bowls on NFL Films.”

Nathan will start out as the backup quarterback for the Jaguars as Trevor Lawrence leads the team.

Rourke had a stellar season last year, and carried the Lions to a 8-1 record before he got injured.

Many B.C Lions fans will be sad to see the star player leave the team. One fan stated;

“IT seemed inevitable that he would sign somewhere. I am happy for him to have his shot at the big money, but sad to not see him back with the Lions.”

I think that sums up Rourke’s decision perfectly.

What’s Next For KSI?

KSI proved me wrong last night with his knockout victory against Faze Temper.

Many boxing experts predicted KSI to lose the fight, and I wrote a full article right here on evolution 107.9 stating I think KSI will lose:

However, I don’t think KSI gains much from this win. Faze was only 1-1 as a boxer so he really had all to gain and nothing to lose coming into this fight. For Faze, boxing was more of a hobby and he only took this short notice fight for the payday.

KSI has stated on multiple occasions that he wants to pursuit boxing in a more professional way and eventually fight youtube boxing star Jake Paul. If he keeps fighting people that have no real talent or boxing ability hes not going to gain any in ring skills. And what KSI desperately needs is some solid in ring skills.

Ive seen KSI’s sparring footage and honestly its not half bad. But when he gets into the ring in front of a crowd it seems his training escapes him and he throws wild haymakers. What he needs is a step up in competition that he will actually have to use his skill for, not just power. This is the exact route Jake Paul took and it paid off great for him.

So where does KSI go from here? I think a match against Salt Papi would be good for him. Salt papi is 3-0 and has some actual boxing skills. This is the perfect test for KSI and a very logical next step. Salt Papi even called KSI out after his win last night.

If KSI is able to beat Salt Papi then he should take that next step to fight Jake Paul.

Being the best in the world at your sport is one thing, but being a superstar is something else completely. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes the two go hand in hand, but theirs something special that makes a superstar stand out from the rest. This is a list of the top 10 biggest sports stars of all time.

This is Part 2 of the list where we will cover numbers 5-1. If you haven’t read part 1 yet, go check that out first:

This scale will be completely based off of popularity in the athletes own sport. Some athletes are more well known because their sport is bigger but that’s not what we are looking at today.

  1. Conor McGregor. They don’t call Conor notorious for no reason. There has never been a bigger draw in MMA history then Conor. Every pay per view he’s on sets a new record for the UFC and that’s all thanks to the man himself. Conor doesn’t win every fight but win or lose, he is must see T.V.

  1. Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth played in the MBL for 22 seasons and certainly left his mark on the game. So much so that you cant have a full conversation without mentioning what Ruth did for the game. His likeable personality and amazing skills helped him sky rocket in popularity as well making him the most well known player in baseball history.

  1. Muhammad Ali. This one was a obvious choice. Muhammad Ali is not only the greatest boxer of all time but the biggest superstar in combats sports history. His iconic quotes are still said to this day. Everyone around the world will always remember the iconic Muhammad Ali.

  1. Lionel Messi. I don’t think it’s a debate anymore that Messi is the soccer goat. After his recent win in the World Cup, Messi has solidified that he is the best of all time and the biggest draw in soccer right now. Sorry Ronaldo fans, its just a fact.

1. Michael Jordan. Who else could be number one besides Micheal Jordan. The greatest basketball player of all time, and one of the biggest personalities in sports of all time. Micheal Jordan helped change the game of basketball forever with his unique mentality and his enigmatic personality. That’s why hes the greatest sports superstar of all time.

  1. Lewis Hamilton. Lewis is a 7 time F1 world champion and has proved throughout the last decade that he is the sports greatest of all time. When he’s not setting the record for most races won of all time hes inspiring millions around the world to join civil rights movements.

  1. Wayne Gretzky. When I say hockey player, you think Wayne Gretzky. Wayne Gretzky is a Canadian legend and arguably the greatest draw in hockey history. His time in the NHL will forever be remembered and his legacy is cemented in his sport for eternity.

  1. LeBron James. LeBron has been In the NBA for decades now and continues to dominate the competition even with a failing team. His story of how he came up as a child and eventually became one of the best NBA players of all time is truly inspirational and its what puts him at #6 on this list.
