Jake Paul’s Jiu Jitsu Isn’t Great

Jake Paul has officially signed a contract with one of the best MMA promotions in the world… and just had his first Jiu jitsu lesson.

I wrote an article earlier today about how Jake signed this MMA contract and we hadn’t even seen him train any real Jiu jitsu or wrestling yet. You can read that article here:

How Will Jake Paul Do In MMA?

Right after I released that article, Jake treated us to some short photos and videos of his very first Jiu jitsu session ever.

In the first video you see that Jake is practicing his top game and fighting for a cross face. But his movements just seem awkward and forced. Theirs ways to open up a cross face that Jiu jitsu practitioners know, but Jake just try’s to squeeze his arm in hoping for the best.

In the second video you see Jake starting out defending a single leg, then clearing his leg and circling to the back of his opponent. While this is a nice move his partner doesn’t seem to be offering him much resistance. Even in a practice situation you need to be feeling some pressure, so that you’re able to apply the move to a live scenario. Jakes partner doesn’t seem to be doing that here.

Overall for his first ever Jiu jitsu practice Jake looked good, but by no means is he at the level of any of his colleagues in the PFL yet. Jakes going to run into some serious problems in MMA if he cant fix this fast!

“Bruce There It Is”

Canucks fans broke out a new chant tonight for the Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau.

This chant is the result of some shifty backstage decisions being made by the higher ups in the Canucks organization. Rumour has it that Bruce Boudreau will be replaced any day now and a new replacement head coach has already been signed.

Bruce implied that he is by no means shocked at this news;

“I’d be a fool to say I don’t know what’s going on.”

Bruce then started to choke up a little and said;

“But like I said before, you come to work and you realize how great the game is.”

While the Canucks may suck, it certainly isn’t Bruce Boudreau’s fault that the team can’t seem to put together a win.

Bruce was given a disastrous team halfway through last year and told to make it work. Theirs not a coach in the league that could turn around the dumpster fire that is the Vancouver Canucks in the time he was given.

The fact that higher ups in the Canucks seem to think firing their head coach is going to save all their problems, shows you exactly what’s wrong with this organization and why the Vancouver Canucks will never win a Stanley cup.

The Canucks lost 4-1 tonight against the Avalanche and play against the Oilers tomorrow night at home.

How Will Jake Paul Do In MMA?

Jake Paul has signed a contract with PFL MMA and calls out Nate Diaz.

After improving his boxing record to 6-0 by beating arguably the best MMA fighter of all time Anderson Silva, Jake Paul has decided to test himself in MMA.

Many will deny Jake Paul’s boxing talent, but to stand toe to toe with Anderson Silva and knock him down makes Jake a good boxer in my books. While Jake might be a good boxer by MMA’s standards it’s hard to tell how he will do in MMA especially against the likes of Nate Diaz.

Nate Diaz is a legitimate MMA fighter, with a Jiu jitsu black belt, years of boxing experience, and fantastic cardio. While I can overlook the years of boxing experience and be generous to say Jake is close to him, it’s hard to overlook the ground game of Nate Diaz compared to Jake.

Jake was known to be a good wrestler back in his day but that was high school. Jakes shown no signs of training wrestling or Jiu jitsu since!

So even if he is able to keep the up with Nate Diaz in the boxing, it’ll be a bad night for Jake if the fight goes to the ground.

While nothing is signed yet, it seems this fight is agreed to by both sides. Let’s hope Jake Paul can get his Jiu jitsu up to par fast if he wants to hang with Stockton’s finest.

The Raptors Take The Wide Open Shot…And Miss!

The Toronto Raptors had the best shot you could get at the Minnesota Timberwolves last night and blew it.

The Timberwolves finished playing their game against the Nuggets the other night, and hopped on a plane all the way back home to Minnesota. They arrived home at 4:00am and then were expected to play the Raptors later that day.

Whoever scheduled their season is cruel, but that’s not the point.

The Timberwolves were also without two of their best players Karl Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert. Both players were injured and unable to play in the game.

The Raptors, arrived in Minnesota a day early, and had a mostly healthy team going into this one.

How could a healthy, well rested Raptors team blow this?

They found a way.

Up by 18 points at one point it seemed the Raptors could actually pull this one out. That was until D’Angelo Russell started to heat up from the 3 point mark, and took the lead with a pair of free throws late in the fourth quarter.

Final score 128-126 for the Timberwolves.

With the trade deadline fast approaching, the raptors clearly need a change, and fast!

Steve Max Is The Best Thing In The NBA Right Now

Steve Max could be the most entertaining person in the NBA right now!

What team does he play for? Well he’s not exactly a player.

Steve Max runs a game of Simon Says at the halftime show of many NBA games. He’s been doing the gig for many years now but has only recently rose to popularity due to tik tok.

When Steve Max plays the game of Simon Says it’s more then just a game. You have to listen so carefully to what he’s saying, and any mistake is unforgiving. He’ll throw you out with no remorse whatsoever.

His Simon Says tricks are crafty and difficult to get past, leaving most volunteers disappointed in themselves.

Sometimes Steve Max feels bad though and will invite you to come back into the game But then you’ll realize he didn’t say Simon says you’re back in the game and you’ll be out all over again. How cruel is that?

If you’re looking for a fun activity to do, click on this steve max video and play along to see how far you make it.

Does Jordan Poole Only Play Basketball To Impress The Ladies?

Theirs been rumours about Jordan Poole going around lately that need to be confirmed or denied.

Jordan Poole is a standout talent on the Golden State Warriors and has had a stellar 3 year career with the team, picking up a championship ring in just his second year.

Fans have started to notice a pattern though with the way he plays.

When Jordan Poole looks into the crowd and makes eye contact with a girl, he plays like he’s a modern day Micheal Jordan. He starts dropping dozens of points in the most crafty ways you could ever imagine. Games where he doesn’t see a girl he wants, he just doesn’t seem to have the same drive.

Maybe he’s just having on and off games, I mean we’ve all been there! If only we had some video evidence to prove that this rumour is true…

That video by the way, was against the #1 ranked team in the league.

So is Jordan Poole just turning it up for ladies in the crowd? Seems like it to me.

I think it would be in Golden States best interest to sign these girls on a contract and bring them to every playoff game this season. If they do that, you can expect another championship ring for the bay.

ADCC Comes To Canada

ADCC is without a doubt the biggest Jiu jitsu event and promotion of all time.

Known as the olympics of Jiu jitsu, the well known ADCC event only happens once every 2 years.

That event is for the professionals only though, with only the best of the best in the sport getting an invite to compete.

For a long time that event was ADCC’s only event that they would run. That changed slightly when ADCC started to host trials, a chance for anybody to go compete to win an invitation to fight at the big show. Trials take place in 4 out of the 7 continents.

In the past year though ADCC has started to open up to doing more competitions, hosting one in Vegas right before their big show with the major athletes. The tournament did fantastic, and grapplers from all over the world (including Vancouver) came to compete.

Now ADCC will be bringing one of their competitions to Canada in Ottawa on April 23rd.

This will be a great chance for grapplers all across Canada to show their skills and potentially impress some of the higher ups in the Jiu jitsu scene.

Don’t miss your chance to compete or watch this epic event April 23rd!

Canucks Fail To Get The Comeback This Time

Vancouver Canucks unable to comeback this time.

Last Sunday afternoon brought an incredible comeback for the Canucks, that was quite possibly one of the most enjoyable games of the Canucks year so far.

No such luck last night though when the Canucks faced off against the Lightning.

The night started with Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning scoring his 500th career goal. It was a special moment and the whole Lightning bench came on the ice to celebrate.

Being down by 1 in the first isn’t the worst thing to happen though and the Canucks looked to battle back to tie the game

Then the Canucks let in 3 more goals, including another goal for Steven Stamkos, improving his career goals to 501.

After going down 4-0 in the first period, the Canucks made the decision that a goalie change was needed.

Now in the second period, the Canucks were able to move the puck up the ice and Quinn Hughes slap shotted the puck in to make the score 4-1 for the Lightning. However, it was counted as a goal for Andre Kuzmenko as he was the one who tipped it in.

Ten minutes into the third period now, Quinn Hughes works his magic once again and puts the puck in beautifully to make the score 4-2 with just ten minutes of play left.

However, the Canucks couldn’t keep the momentum rolling, as Steven Stamkos was able to bank it in on an empty net giving him the hat trick to celebrate on his already special night.

Honestly, this wasn’t a terrible game for the Canucks. Once they got the goalie situation sorted out they didn’t let in anymore goals except for the one on an empty net. It seems like the Canucks main problems are on the backend of the ice, so if they get that figured out, maybe they’ll have a shot at winning some games.

Put Some Respect On Ariel Helwani’s Name!

Ariel Helwani is a Canadian born combat sports journalist. In his two decades of experience he’s covered promotions like UFC, Bellator, Pride, and many more. His large popularity in the sport is due to his hard hitting questions, and professionalism he brings to every interview. He is without a doubt the face of combat sports journalism.

However, when watching a interview the other day that Ariel was doing with UFC fighter Sean Strickland, I was taken aback by one of their exchanges. Strickland decided he wanted to question Ariel Helwanis combat sports knowledge, as Ariel has in fact not trained much in the sport:

“I don’t know how you got this job bro, you should be a golf commentator, a golf analyst.”

Ariel questioned what Strickland meant by this and Strickland went further:

“How did you get in the MMA world? I don’t think you’re a big MMA fan.”

To ask someone this who single handily put combat sports journalism on the map is plain disrespectful. Ariel Helwani seemed to think so too and he fired back:

“I was in the bar watching MMA when you were in your fathers nutsack. When you didn’t even know what the f*ck MMA was dude, I was talking about MMA. I was doing a radio show at Syracuse university in 2001.”

Ariel didn’t stop there though:

“I was on the front f*cking lines of this sport, creating jobs, and interviewing fighters, going to bullsh*t events.”

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnlI6xHjvs8/?igshid=NDk5N2NlZjQ=

While Ariel Helwani may have just for a moment lost some of his well known professionalism I can’t blame him. For someone who is a staple in the sport to be questioned by a fighter that clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about is insane.

Ariel Helwani has been around a long time and it’s time that the combat sports community puts some respect on his name. Theirs a reason this journalist has 1.2 million followers on Instagram, and Strickland only has 50k.

Top 5 Walkout Songs In Sports History!

Walkout songs have been a staple in sports for quite some time now. When your favourite professional athlete or sports teams song hits, you get a warm fuzzy feeling inside, and it’s something you wont forget for quite some time. Here’s a list of the top 5 best walkout songs of all time.

5. John Cena, You Cant See Me.

This entrance song is iconic for so many reasons. The words you cant see me have become such a world wide phenomenon, to the point where you cant watch a single thing on earth with John Cena in it without someone commenting “I cant see him.” This song is catchy, alines with Cena’s character, and is a huge motivator for Cena to enter the ring too.

4. Darren Till, Sweet Caroline.

When Darren Till entered to this song at UFC Liverpool, he solidified himself as one of the top entertainers in the sport. The whole crowd coming together to sing the song as Darren made the walk to the octagon is a moment I wont forget watching in my entire life, and gives me full goosebumps. Darren till went on to win the fight, and I will always credit the win to his walkout song.

3. Wladimir Klitschko, Cant Stop.

A entrance that seemed like it had a movie budget. As the entrance starts backstage with Klitschko getting ready to go, you can feel the anticipation in the arena. When Klitschko finally gets to the arena on the beat drop, and his team is behind him holding up the belts, I thought to myself “Yeah, this is going on the list.”

2. Israel Adesanya, Dance Beat.

While this isn’t really a song makes the moment type deal, this walkout will always be iconic. For Israel Adesanya to come out and do a full dance routine before facing off against the best middleweight on the planet, and then go knock him out is unheard of! He had the full thing choreographed and everything. This to me screams confidence and that’s why its so high on the list!

1. Brian Robinson, Many Men.

After being shot twice, Brian Robinson made his return to football just 6 weeks later to the song Many Men by 50 cent. The lyrics fit perfect, the vibes from the stadium and his teammates are impeccable, and this walkout song is the greatest of all time.
