Canucks win 5-1 over the Anaheim Ducks and Future NHL MVP

Looks like the Canucks are looking toward having a great run leading to the mid season with a recent 5-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks from November 5th. This not only adds to the Canucks win streak, but has solidified a certain player on the team as an NHL MVP candidate.

Let’s recap a bit of the game and what went down. From the start to the end the Canucks really showed that they were both determined and hungry for the win. From looking at the games highlights, the Ducks started off with getting the first point of the game in the first period. However, The Canucks responded back with fury later into the period as they outmaneuvered and scored two wins against the ducks before the end of the first period. From then on for the entire game the Canucks followed through with three other goals for the 2 periods after. Looking back at the highlights, You can tell that after that first win the ducks got against the Canucks, they really took that personal.

Overall the Canucks did really good. However, Vancouver Canucks defender Quinn Hughes, really had a big night and as showed promise as an early NHL MVP candidate. During the game, Hughes picked up an assist on three of the five Canucks goals, giving him a total of 300 assists in his career so far. One of these assists was during the beginning of the second period where Hughes really let his skills show as he helped get the 3rd point of the game.

Something to note is that it took 376 games total that Hughes has played in to get his 300 assists. From what some analysts say this makes him the third fastest defence-man in NHL history. This puts him in the top 3 along with Bobby Orr and Brian Leetch who were able to get to where Hughes was faster.

Let’s just acknowledge the fact that with this alone he proven to everyone that he is one of if not the top candidate this year for the next NHL MVP. If he keeps this momentum up this for the rest of the season, then what people are saying of him being a MVP for this season become a reality. But the question is can he do it? Well, seeing how he’s been playing and training these past few years, I can personally say that yes he can do it.

Whitecaps For The Win!!!

Looks like Vancouver sports teams overall are having a good time with getting wins as the Vancouver Whitecaps has brought home the win against Los Angeles with a crazy 3-0 victory. Its clear they took that win LA got against them in the first win and the controversial penalty very personal to the point they came out guns blazing in the second game on Sunday nights game.

On Sunday Nov. 3rd, the Whitecaps and Los Angeles had their 2nd game against each other for the playoffs. This game had everyone on the edge of their seats on both sides leading into the game and when the first kick happened. However, things really shacked up at the beginning of the game.

LA who was riding off of their first win and was determined to follow it up with another, got absolutely decimated in the first half of the game by the Whitecaps. The team’s “main man” Ryan Gauld netted two back to back wins in just the first 15 minutes of the game with him getting another goal at the beginning of the second half.

Seriously, talk about coming out swinging and being hungry for the win. This was honestly the kind of game that embodies the meaning of make a strong comeback. If you were at the game or watching it a home like me, then I bet you were seeing everyone’s shock at how the Whitecaps really brought their A game that night and was ready.

Apart from Gauld who now has a total of five goals and an assist in this year’s MLS Playoffs, the Whitecaps Goalkeeper, Yohei Takaoka also did an amazing job that night as he stopped all the shots that came his way and made a total of four saves in the game. One of these highlighted saves was when he absolutely denied Denis Bouanga with an incredible save.

Overall, to say the Whitecaps did amazing would be an understatement as they were fully prepared that night with their offence and defence and some of their key players reminding us why they were so great. The overall wins are now 1-1 for the playoffs game with Game 3 set to take place on Nov.8th. Things have really gotten interesting as now both teams are just 1 game away from the win. Who do you think will win the Whitecaps or Los Angeles? Leave a comment and let me know about your predictions and which side your going for

A Juno-Nominated Musical Is Coming Back

The Juno-nominated musical Reflections on Crooked Walk is making its grand return at the Firehall Arts Centre in Vancouver on November 30th.

If you aren’t familiar with the play then let me be the first to tell you it’s a really good musical. This play is a family musical created by the acclaimed Canadian artist Ann Mortifee that combines adventure and friendship in an enchanting journey.

For a bit of background, It takes place in a town that has been plagued by a mysterious illness that leaves the towns inhabitants unable to wake. After this unfolds, four unlikely friends set off to search for a cure, along the way they are guided by cryptic clues from a mystical figure known as the Doorman. Their journey takes some unexpected twists as they encounter the character Opia. Opia is a manipulator intent on derailing their mission and his mischievous minions, Wayless and Nimbleknees join him to stand in the way the group which forces them to dig deep into their own fears.

This musical also has some amazing songs that really set the tone and brings you into the world of the musical. Some of the songs that really do this are “Song In The Dark” which is my personal favourite from the musical, Some other good ones were “Dance of the Leaves” and “All He Really Needed Was a Friend” which really brings out the world and reinforces the plot of the musical in a great way.

Throughout the story, Mortifee’s lyrical compositions really brings out the emotional intensity of the characters’ struggles and blending folk-inspired melodies with haunting harmonies that echo’s through the stage creating an eerie, dreamlike world. The musical also incorporates imaginative stage design and choreography that will immerse you in the characters’ world whether that be the dark forest or in the town. Every scene feels so alive and will bring you deeper into the mystery as it unfolds infant of your eyes.

So if your interested into mysteries and love stories about that combines folklore, magic, and friendship, Then I recommend this musical as you will not be disappointed. If you already have seen it then leave your comment below and talk about if you enjoyed the play and what your favourite moment was. Be ready because once the lights dim and the final note resonates, Reflections on Crooked Walk will leave you spellbound and eagerly anticipating the next twist in Mortifee’s world.

New adaptation of a Classic musical coming to Vancouver

The classic musical “Grease” has a new adaptation that reimagines the iconic play and film and is coming to North Vancouver at Centennial Theatre on November 8th.

The play titled “Bear Grease” is a reimagined spin-off of the musical and movie that you know and love told through a indigenous lens. It was created by the Los Angeles-based hip-hop duo LightningCloud, comprised of Crystle Lightning and MC RedCloud (Henry Andrade). This reimagined play has been catching the eyes of audiences across North America for the last 3 years since its creation.

“Bear Grease” still stays in 1950s setting of the original show but infuses it with Indigenous culture, music, and storytelling, that adds a fresh perspective to the familiar tale of teenage love and rebellion. While honoring the original characters and themes, LightningCloud has added elements of Indigenous identity, history, and tradition which created a setting that feels extremely new but also stays true to the original.

In this adaptation, “Bear Grease” is set in a parallel universe where colonization never happened, Indigenous youth that is celebration of Indigenous resilience, humour, and joy. Although it still takes place in the same time period, it reimagines some of the aesthetics and cultural references. Instead of poodle skirts, the women wear outfits adorned with beadwork and ribbons; and the T-Birds are now the Thunderbirds

The recognizable hits from “Grease” are given a unique twist, As Lightning explains the show still stays true to the legendary early rock ‘n’ roll sound from that era but will incorporate other sounds such as traditional drumming, flute, and hip-hop. This will allow audience members to enjoy the nostalgia of the classic tunes, but with a unique mix as it blends them with more traditional and modern sounds that creates a newer musical atmosphere that is both catchy and experimental.

Crystle Lightning and MC RedCloud have taken their own lived experiences as Indigenous artists and woven them into this production, creating an opportunity for viewers to learn and appreciate Indigenous culture through music and dance. The production has been embraced by audiences for its humor, heart, and creativity, as well as for its commitment to authentic Indigenous representation. Lightning explains how Bear Grease is a joyful, witty response to this absence, offering a fresh perspective on a beloved musical while showcasing Indigenous talent and culture.

We created this show as a way to celebrate our identity, and have some fun with one of our favourite musicals.”

“Bear Grease” promises to be an unforgettable experience for both the die-hard fans of the original and the newcomers. So if your interested or a fan of Grease, Grab your leather jackets and poodle skirts with a twist, and get ready to experience “Grease” with a soulful, Indigenous spirit.

The reaction to EA Sports doing Rick Tocchet dirty

EA Sports just did Rick Tocchett dirty with a recent update that added 32 coaches to the game and Canuck fans had a lot to say about the certain “standout features” of the Canucks coach. All of which are absolutely hilarious.

For a little bit of background, EA announced on a few hours ago they were releasing a new update that would include some patches to the game and promised it will add all 32 official NHL hockey coaches to the game:

“We’re excited to announce the arrival of all 32 official NHL coaches in EA SPORTS NHL 25, along with their unique personalities and strategies they employ in the real world, Each coach has a “slew of attributes that symbolize their real-world strengths.”

When the update came, it brought everything EA mentioned including the 32 coaches. However, something that caught many gamers eyes is the in-game version of the Vancouver Canucks Coach Rick Tocchet. This led to a wide range of responses on social media from Canucks fans about the coaches design all of which centres around the fact that he has hair on his head because Tocchet in real life has a more clean shaved head. And boy some of the responses were funny. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

First we got this tweet by twitter user JOFA Helmet where he said Tocchet looks like Biz when he got scalped a few seasons ago. Man talk about an absolute violation.

This new one is a response to the original photo where twitter user Benjamin said even the guy in the white shirt is like What The Heck. Honestly, when I saw this photo that was my exact face when seeing Tocchet.

This last one Im gonna show you however had me almost die laughing where twitter user Riotsurvivour said that EA getzlaf’d him which Damn, That’s the definition of shots fired.

This update was honestly the funniest video game update that I’ve seen in a while. Seriously, Rick looking like a skinny white washed uncle Phil with that hair. Dude looking like high school principal on a bad day. Also, the PS2 graphics ain’t doing this photo any justice.

In all seriousness tho, It’s going to be interesting to see Tocchet’s reaction to this. As of right now there has been from him or any member of the Canucks staff or players. I’m interested to see what Tocchet says and if EA will fix Tocchet’s look. I guess will have to wait and see how this all unfolds.

Drake & DeMar DeRozan feud during Raptors game

This just in, Hip-Hop’s biggest failure this year Drizzy Drake is once again in another feud. This time Mr. “pettier than 50 cent” is feuding with Toronto basketball star DeMar DeRozan for him picking Kendricks side in the Drake vs Kendrick beef.

Yes, when we all thought Drake couldn’t get any pettier or stop taking losses, he has once again proved us wrong with recent comments he made about DeMar. This shows that the days of these two laughing and joking with each other on the sidelines is no longer a reality. During the Sacramento Kings Vs Toronto Raptors game on Saturday, Drake was invited on the broadcast where he had some not so kind words to Demar DeRozan fans who were holding up banners of their favourite player. Drake said:

“If you ever put a DeRozan banner up, I’ll go up there and pull it down myself”

Damn, talk about still being salty. Honestly, Drake is so salty that this clip will spare me the trouble of having to season my dinner tonight. All jokes aside, According to some outside sources these comments were made due to Demar being in the “Not Like Us” music video by Kendrick Lamar. Come on Drake, your still mad about someone choosing not to stick with you after you have done literally nothing to prove that the allegations against you are false? News flash saying your to famous for that will not work, R. Kelly, Bill Cosby and Diddy were “too famous” for that stuff as well and look what happened to them.

Demar DeRozan however, didn’t seem too fazed by the comments made by Drake, As laughed them off when asked about them after the game. DeMar told reporters before leaving in response to Drakes comments:

“He’s going to have a long way to climb to take it down; tell him good luck”

Many Demar fans and people are having a field day on social media after the game with trolling Drake for his comments. I won’t go into details about them as some of them are too crazy to share. But, I’ll just say that DeMar fans are absolutely ruthless with what they are saying to the point where it’s hilarious. With Drake and DeMar’s friendship no more, This new beef may be another crazy moment in pop culture as the already demolished hip hop titan is going against one of the most loved basketball players in Canada. It’s going to be very interesting to see this beef plays out to say the least.

BC Lions Lose to Saskatchewan

Well unfortunately it looks like the BC Lions won’t be playing in the Grey Cup at BC Place this year after a 28-19 playoff loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday.

To say this game kept fans on the edge of their seats would be an understatement. This game really was a crazy moment that had a lot go on during its 4 quarters. I saw this game with my family on the T.V. and even some of them were on their toes with this game as this will decide who goes to the grey cup. Either, The Lions or The Roughriders?

Recapping from what was seen in the game, Lets look at how everything played out, how Saskatchewan beat the Lions and how the lions can learn from this to bounce back for next season.

This game was honestly filled with some intense plays, crazy turnovers, and impressive defence on both sides. However, it ended with the Roughriders ultimately outmanoeuvring the Lions and leading them to the Grey Cup. For the first quarter, the lions came out strong and got the first touchdown of the game. However, the Roughriders responded back fast with them passing the lions 13-6 by the second quarter, but The Lions fought back and tied the game just before halftime began. With the score tied, this game looks like it was going to be a close one as when one side scored the other quickly responded back. This continued into the third round with both teams responding to touchdowns and countering the plays in a pretty strategic ways as clock counted down to the end.

However the moment that changed everything in this game was when the Roughriders intercepted the ball late into the 3rd quarter which ended the neck and neck back and forth with the Lions. This turnover allowed Saskatchewan to get the upper hand and follow it up with a touchdown, pushing their lead further. Although the Lions did respond with a drive of their own, it failed due to a few penalties and incomplete passes which ultimately slowed their progress immensely. While they did manage to add points to the board, It still wasn’t enough as the Roughriders had another opportunity which led them to taking the win in the 4th quarter.

Even though the BC Lions lost, they have the opportunity to come back stronger next season. With a roster full of young talent and a dedicated coaching staff, they’ve built a solid foundation which led to a great run the first half of the season. By focusing on key areas for improvement in the offseason, the Lions can return with renewed focus and aim to reach the next grey cup and take home the win.

Whitecaps Vs Los Angeles Game 2

Attention Soccer Fans! This weekend on Sunday at 5:45pm PT. is the 2nd game between the Vancouver Whitecaps & Los Angeles!

The Whitecaps, now looking even more victory and are looking to take the win in this upcoming game. Their last game against LA didn’t go so well as they lost (2-1) thanks to what some say was a “controversial penalty”. With this redemption on their minds, the Whitecaps are looking like they might make a strong comeback in game 2. The team has been focused on their defense and honing their finishing skills in training and are hoping to avoid any repeat of errors. They won the game before the 1st LA match against the Portland Timbers in the Wild Card game with the score being 5-0 in their favour so with this win they are looking to channel that same energy and win this next game with the same kind of score.

On the other side, LA who are still riding high with their first win against the Whitecaps. It’s looking like LA wants to knock the Whitecaps out of the playoffs like they did last season. When looking back at this it’s clear why LA is looking extremely confident as they are facing Vancouver. Their defense has been doing good, their offensive is looking prepared, and are ready to go back to back with another win against the Whitecaps. LA also beat San Jose in the game before the 1st Whitecaps match (3-1). With back to back two wins under their belt and the teams training, They might make it 3 back to back wins on Sunday.

So, will the Whitecaps make a comeback and secure the win? Will LA have a 3 streak if they win this game? Well, I guess we’re going to have to wait and see. Either way, this is going to be a very exciting that will keep fans from both sides on the edge of their seats. So, grab your friends or family, put on your Whitecaps merch, ready your tickets or your TV, and get ready for another great game between these 2 teams this Sunday at 5:45pm!
